B attlefield Sports is committed to continuous im- provement. While our focus to date has been civilian games, serious inquiries from the US Ma- rine Corp, the US Navy, and others have led our research and development depart- ment to focus on new mili- tary applications. For illus- trative pur- poses only see our prototype.
The final sys- tem may well look different from the above due to the re- quirements of the opto- electronics used by Battle- field Sports and by practi- calities of manufacturing. Armed forces and police forces from around the world have requested an easy to use, effective and practical live combat simulation sys- tem for both fun and train- ing. Pre-ordering is now available by emailing pe- ter@battlefieldsports.com however this model will not be sold in Australia except to the Military and is only for exports, it is up to the purchaser to make sure it is legal in their country as we will not be providing a refund if a customer experiences problems with shipping, customs or otherwise.

The actual "barrel" that fires the tight infra-red beam on both the Morita and M16 is underslung tak- ing the slot where the M203 would be.

At time of manufacturing the customer can specify what type of scope mounting rail is required. The main board also has a 3V output suitable for many types of scopes which means the scope can be powered off the main re- chargeable battery.

We can install and wire in the red dot scopes at time of manufac- ture for our customers. military maneuvers Lock & Load LASER SKIRMISH Volume 3, Issue 1 March 2003 Peter aiming the Morita LASER SKIRMISH USA Tel: +1 253 595 0442 USA Fax: +1 253 981 0226 AU Tel: +61 1300 666 559 AU Fax: +61 1300 666 549 Email: info @battlefieldsports . com BattlefieldSports.

com Team Airlie 2 Battle Tactics 2-3 R& D Update 4 News 4 Washington DC Launches 5 National Accolades 5 Cyprus Laser-Strike 6 Inside this issue: the VIP from one end of the field to the other without the VIP dying. A hybrid tactic is to have a wide formation that probes forward looking for the areas of enemy strength and weakness navigating the VIP through the safest path found. Usually one sol- dier stays with the VIP all the way as a guide and as the last ditch defence.

By having forces that span the field, a careful well coordinated team can make sure all enemy snipers are de- tected and then evaded or destroyed before they can attack the VIP. This tactic works best on relatively narrow fields or with large formations involved because it is vital the ambushes do not slip through the net. The major problem is with maintaining formation in rugged terrain or when the force comes under enemy fire.

It is vital that formation re- mains in a line across the field to pre- vent gaps forming, this can be re- markably hard to achieve if leadership is lacking or the soldiers lack discipline under fire. For the ambush team there are also some options available. To some extend the ambush team is look- ing for mistakes from the VIP escort team.

If enemy escorts do not make any mistakes, then your facing an up- hill battle. The classic plan is to deploy throughout the battlefield well hidden snipers and lie in wait for the perfect shot on the VIP. Given that the Morita and Pulse Rifles will make accurate hits up to 150 metres, long range snip- ing is definitely an option.

Most battlefields have plenty of good sniper hiding points with good fire smart and hold their fire, allowing the enemy to take down the VIP in a hail of fire. Also there is chance with the patrol formation that a flanking sniper can pick off the VIP because the patrol formation tends to be quite linear. The tail end soldier must take care as well, because the ambush team may well let the patrol pass them by and then attack from the rear.

The advantage of the patrol formation is that all the es- cort team is defending the VIP for the entire journey which often means there is adequate concentrated firepower to deal with any ambushes found along the way. The next option is to hide the VIP with perhaps 1 or 2 guards usually fairly close to the deployment zone and send the main body of troops for- ward to find and eliminate most if not all the enemy forces before moving the VIP forward. This tactic has the advan- tage of allowing the escorting team to concentrate on finding and destroying the enemy without being constrained by having to protect the VIP, it essen- tially becomes a classic search and destroy mission.

Ideally the VIP party and the leader of the search and de- stroy section will both have radios be- cause communication can easily break down. There are two major risks associated with this plan. The first is if the ambushes realise what the escort team are up to, and infiltrate through their lines to find and destroy the poorly defended VIP.

The second risk is that the search and destroy force may be badly mauled by the ambush force to a point they are no longer an lanes. The key for the sniper to re- main undetected yet be positioned so as to have a good view of the bat- tlefield. The risk for the snipers is that because they are so spread out, an alert escort team can destroy your team in detail.

If the team excel at base defence, the ambush team could position themselves en- trenched around the VIP destination point. However because the attack- ers have 8 hit points versus the de- fenders 5 hit points, there is consid- erable danger the attackers (escorts) will overrun the defenders (ambush). This strategy is recommended for night missions because at night, de- fenders have the advantage plus at night tight control is required of ones forces to minimize friendly fire.

An bold tactic that can be employed by experienced forces is to maintain most or all of your force in a mobile formation that tries to outflank the en- emy and if the VIP is not with the main enemy party to actively search for the VIP. In summary, there is no right way or wrong way to approach the VIP escort mission. The force commander must consider the ter- rain, lighting, the enemies likely tac- tics and the skill of the forces under his/her control.

For the VIP escort team the most conservative approach is the patrol and for the ambush team, placing well hidden snipers covering the different approaches. Of course in battle, fortune often favors the brave! Page 3 Sensor on the Gun While it was always an optional extra, now all new guns manufactured by Battlefieldsports.com have an extra forward facing sensor.

This system makes blind firing a much more hazardous strategy by the players and also makes players in bunkers easier to hit. I originally set about look- ing at new business op- portunities in Cyprus by thinking of products or services that I was familiar with from England and see if there would be a market over here.

One of my ideas was to estab- lish a paintball operation, having found great difficulty in locating any locally. I then found out that a few guys had attempted to setup such an activity a few years previously but, due to licensing regula- tions, the paintball weapons they had imported were classed in the same category as shot- guns! Whilst it was still possible to operate in that field, the pa- perwork and insurance involved would be too restrictive for the type of business I wanted to op- erate.

I came across the Battlefield- sports.com web site during my research and was immediately impressed by the capability of the weapons. As they are classed as toys I knew that it would not be a problem to im- port them and set up a laser skirmish site in Cyprus. I was, however, a little reluctant to part with a significant invest- ment amount for a product that was to be purchased from a company halfway around the world!

A few phone calls to Ni- cole and Peter, plus further re- search through their laserskir- mish.com web site convinced me that their setup was bonafide and I began working on a business plan based around their technology. Knowing more about the capa- bility of the weapons (hit points, range, anti-cheat etc), it did not take me long to realize that what I was about to set up in Cyprus would be one of the most exciting new activities to arrive in the area for a long time. Having been a keen player of the on-line game Counter-Strike, I was ea- ger to re-create the same type of gaming environ- ment regarding the em- phasis on teamwork.

I had played indoor laser tag in London before and had found it to be very un- satisfying due to the na- ture of the focus being on the individual. It was more about running around wildly shooting at any- thing that moved in order to get as many frags as possible, plus the guns were very lightweight and plastic, making me feel as if I was a little too old to be playing with them! In consultation with the team from Battlefield Sports I se- lected a variety of weapons for my initial arsenal: * 10 Spitfires * 12 Pulses * 8 Morita.

The contracts were signed and exchanged following an agreement for our operation to act as the IMD (Independent Master Dis- tributor) for Cyprus.
