Revolutionary War Muster Rolls - part of the HeritageQuestOnline collection. These are searchable for free through subscribing libraries using a pass code or your library card.

Click Browse and select Revolution: 1775- 1815 as the category, and Revolutionary War Pensions as the title.<br><br> This is a difficult site to search. Service Records -may want to find pension record to identify the unit before searching for service file o Footnote.com has service records in its database. Loyalist Records o On-Line Institute for Advanced Loyalist Studies 3 www.royalprovincial.com; particularly useful is the Claims and Memorials database.<br><br> Bounty-land grants -land received from the Federal government for Revolutionary War and War of 1812 veterans. o Ancestry.com 9s US War Bounty Land Warrants, 1789 -1858: ancestry.com/search/db/aspx?dbid=1165. o HeritageQuest 9s online Revolutionary War database also include s bounty-land warrant application files.<br><br> 3. War of 1812 Service Records o Ancestry.com has an index to these records. Each record contains the name, company, and rank at induction and discharge.<br><br> Use the microfilm roll number to order the actual records from the National Archives (see below on how to order) Pension Record o A ncestry.com has a War of 1812 pension application index. These pension applications, however, were filed in the 1870 9s and most of the veterans from this war have died. This is a cguess and find d index.<br><br> Bounty-land warrants o These are also found on ancestry.com with the Revolutionary War soldiers. 4. Mexican Battalion and the Mexican War www.gengateway.com/military/ Find microfilms on www.familysearch.org , using the keyword search in the library catalog 5.<br><br> Civil War -Before you begin a search for an ancestor who served in the Civil War, it is a good idea to find out state and unit. There are a number of online indexes for free that will help you do this. You will need this information if you want to order a pension record.<br><br> Indexes to Civil War Soldiers o Ancestry.com has Civil War indexes. Some of these indexes have images attached to them. o http://pilot.familysearch.org has a civil war pension index.<br><br> Look for it under the cView all collections. d There are no images attached to this database. Since this index covers the application period from 1861-1917, it may also include veterans from the Spanish-American War, the Philippine Insurrection, Indian Wars, and World War I. o Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System- www.itd.nps.gov/cwss has indexes from Union and Confederate soldiers.<br><br> There are also regimental histories, battle descriptions, and prisoner records. Difference between service and pension records Service Records o Some possible information that may be contained in the service records place of birth, dates of enlistment and discharge, battle injuries, and treatment. o Footnote.com is digitizing and posting Confederate service records for subscriber access.<br><br> o NARA has microfilmed Union and Confederate service records. o The FHL has also service records on microfilms. Pension Records o By far the most useful of Civil War records because these records may contain vital information, family members, places of residence, or even family histories.<br><br> The veteran, a spouse, or other family member could apply for a veteran 9s pension. These records have not been digitized or available online yet. Eventually these records will be available online from Footnote.com or at Family History Centers for free.<br><br> o To speed up the process of ordering these records from NARA, find out what you can from the service record indexes. Pension records cost $75.00 per record up to 100 pages. o This is the ordering process from NARA: Go to www.archives.gov/order .<br><br> Proceed to Reproductions and Microfilm. Log in or subscribe as a new user. Click Order Reproductions and Microfilms..<br><br> Under Records Reproductions, select Military Service and Pension Records From the list of pre-WWI records, click the record you need, for example, Civil War and later pension records. Record the fee and notice the wait time. Select what you need and add to cart Fill in what you know about your ancestor.<br><br> If you wait too long, the system will kick you off. So if you have to leave, click Save and Finish Later. Continue to Pay and Ship.<br><br> Because of the length of time for getting records, it is suggested that you may want to hire an on-site researcher to get the records for you. This may also be the cheapest way to get records. You can on-site researchers at www.archives.gov/research/hire-help .<br><br> 1890 Census of Union Veterans and Widows o This census is for veterans living in Washington, D. C., or one of the states alphabetically from Kentucky to Wyoming. This index is available on ancestry.com, 1890 Veterans Schedules database.<br><br> American Civil War Research Database o This is a fee-based website-www.civilwardata.com. You will be able to access state rosters, pension indexes, regimental histories and Roll of Honor. 6.<br><br> Spanish-American War Spanish-American War Centennial , www.spanamwar.com , has rosters and historical information. Rough Riders information is available on www.accessgenealogy.com/military/spanish/rough_riders.htm ; also copies of thi s unit 9s service reports are available online in NARA 9s Archival Research Catalog (arcweb.archives.gov) NARA has service records of other units. 7.<br><br> Philippine Insurrection 1900 US Census covered military personnel stationed in the Philippines, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. In ancestry.com 1900 census database, select Military and Naval Forces as the state of residence. The same information is available on HeritageQuestOnline selecting Military and Naval as the state.<br><br> NARA has service and pension records. 8. World War I WWI Draft Registration Cards can be found on ancestry.com in its military collection.<br><br> These images show full name, residence, date of birth, place of birth, occupation, physical description, and the name of the nearest relative. 9. World War II WWII Draft Registration Cards are available for those born between April 28, 1877 and February 16, 1897.<br><br> This collection is available on ancestry.com in the WWII Draft Registration Cards, 1942. FamilySearch is also adding these card images to its Record Search. WWII Army Enlistment Records, 1938-1946 are available on NARA 9s free Access to Archival Databases (AAD) site-aad.archives.gov/aad and on ancestry.com.<br><br> WWII Casualty Lists are available at the NARA site and also on www.ancestry.com. 10. Korean War Casualty Lists can be found at AAD (mentioned above) 11.<br><br> Vietnam War Casualty List can also be found at AAD. You can browse states 9 lists at archives.gov./research/vietnam-war/casuality-lists/state-level-alpha.html. Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a free search on go.footnote.com/the wall.<br><br> Each record links to an image of the name on the Vietnam memorial wall in Washington, DC, and details about the soldier.
