For Immediate Release The Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum Hosts the Aviation and Aerospace Segment of the 3 rd Annual Baltimore County Community Waterfront Festival Middle River, MD Apr 24, 2007 -- The Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum is once again organizing the aviation and space portion of the Baltimore County Community Waterfront Festival, to be held on Saturday, May 12, rain or shine, at the Lockheed Martin property along Dark Head Cove, and on Martin State Airport on Wilson Point Road in Middle River, Maryland.

The event will run from 10am until 6pm on the waterfront, and from 10am to 5:30pm on the Airport side. The event is free to the public. The aerospace part of the festival will feature exhibitors at the main event site, seaplanes in the water, display aircraft on Martin State airport at Strawberry Point, and the Glenn L.

Martin Maryland Aviation Museum 9s exhibit rooms located in Hangar 5. A free shuttle bus will take visitors to each of the locations. The 2007 event recognizes the area 9s heritage (including aerospace) and its waterfront resources.

In addition to the exhibitor displays, there will be antique, military, and modern airplanes and helicopters. Other highlights include: " ... more. less.

The opportunity to purchase sightseeing rides from Brett Aviation for an aerial view of the area. Three airplane rides or flying lessons will be available to lucky raffle winners.<br><br> " Open cockpits of historic fighter jets, and bombers, and an interior tour of a Martin 404 Airliner. " Maryland Air National Guard aircraft and crews - C-130 and A-10 " WBAL TV airborne news helicopter and Capt. Roy Taylor will be on hand.<br><br> See the equipment used to capture the scenes shown daily on TV and talk to Roy. " Public service aviation such as the Baltimore County & Maryland State police helicopters and their flight and medical crews. " Historic aircraft including antiques; warbirds; the Museum 9s aircraft collection (including several Martin aircraft built in Middle River and a Navy cTop Gun d fighter); and a variety of modern homebuilt, sport, personal, and business aircraft.<br><br> " Seaplanes arriving about 10am and departing around 5pm, including the large 100 foot wingspan Grumman Albatross that attended the last two Festivals. " Maryland aerospace organizations such as the Lockheed Martin Corporation, the Space Telescope Sciences Institute (Hubble telescope), NASA 9s Goddard Space Flight Center (space and earth sciences), the Maryland Aviation Administration, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, all will have exhibits and staff covering interesting programs, career opportunities, and information for students considering aerospace education and careers, and attractions for kids. " Model aviation, including radio control and plastic scale modelers.<br><br> " Aviation and space related activities for kids, including drawing, making aircraft and spacecraft, contests, and games. Visitors can try riveting or listen to aviation themed puppet and musical shows that will be performed. In addition to the aviation attractions there will be community and marine exhibits, a boat show at the new Wilson Point Park along Dark Head Cove, boating demonstrations and a docking contest, County and State activities, arts and crafts vendors, live musical entertainment, food and drink from area restaurants and wineries, historic sailboats, water taxi tours, a fire boat, picnic tents and tables, and activities for kids of all ages.<br><br> Admission is free. Martin, the third American to design, build, and fly his own plane. Martin was the only early pioneer to start and maintain control of his own manufacturing company.<br><br> He is arguably the primary father of the modern aircraft manufacturing industry in the United States, having employed many of the early aviation pioneers who would go on to start other major aircraft companies.
