In addition to the usual Festival TransAm é riques dance-and-theatre hybrid festival, and the Montreal Fringe Festival, we will have the MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL YIDDISH THEATRE FESTIVAL, from June 17 to 25.
It will offer 36 events including plays (with subtitles), films and symposiums on Yiddish theatre at various venues including the Segal Centre for Performing Arts, where a Yiddish version of Gilbert and Sullivan 9 s Pirates of Penzance plays May 31 to June 18. The lineup includes 24 shows presented by 22 companies from 12 countries over 18 days at 13 Montreal locales. Highlights include Robert Lepage 9 s É onnagata, created in collaboration with French ballet star Sylvie Guillem and renowned British choreographer Russell Maliphant. It 9 s based on the life of an18th-century diplomat and spy.
