The Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce recently in- troduced a new program called the Rising Star pro- gram, that recognizes students in the middle school grades from local Jones County schools who have maintained all A 9s on their report cards throughout the school year. The Rising Stars Recognition Program was born in an effort to recognize academic excellence and en- courage students at the beginning of their academic careers to strive to be all that they can be.<br><br> The Stu- dents were treated to a luncheon away from school at Trish Ann 9s Antiques and Tea Room, on Friday, May 16, and each received a certificate of achieve- ment and a $50 savings bond sponsored by a local business . At the luncheon, each student was allowed to nominate a teacher who has contributed the most to them personally and the teachers will be recog- nized at the school 9s Honors Day program. Each of the teachers will also receive a certificate of recogni- tion and a $50 gift certificate (also sponsored by a local business ), and his or her name is added to a Rising Stars Teacher Plaque displayed at their school.<br><br> The 2008 Rising Star Teachers are: Tetse Hooten, Gray Station Middle School Bill Stevens, Clifton Ridge Middle School Thanks to the 2008 Chamber Gold and Silver Sponsors who made this event possible!
