HAMER ARBORETUM Named after the former Premier of Victoria, the arboretum contains Northern Hemisphere forests of beech, poplars, oaks and maples.<br><br> Devastation by fire of the original eucalypt forest in 1962 resulted in the planting of an exotic forest arboretum using trees from Europe, America and Asia. Many visitors enjoy a quiet, peaceful stroll through the delightful scenery, while others prefer a picnic. George Tindale Gardens GEORGE TINDALE GARDENS Under a canopy of Australian Mountain Ash trees, Tindale is a garden for all seasons. This hill top garden is a marvellous blend of exotic plants surrounded by the distinctive scent of gum trees.<br><br> There is something for the garden lover all year round. ALFRED NICHOLAS GARDENS Established in 1929, this garden was part of the historic Burnham Beeches Estate, home of the Nicholas family, developers of the Aspro formula.<br><br> The gardens were designed in the tradition of a 19th century hill station. Today visitors enjoy walks along many linking paths, picnics on the spacious lawns, and bird watching by the lake. The garden is known worldwide for its extensive water features including waterfalls and an ornamental lake with wooden bridges and a boathouse.<br><br> PEACEFUL Alfred Nicholas Gardens Highlights In spring, view the flowering cherries, azaleas and rhododendrons. Golden ginkgo trees in autumn and blue hydrangeas in summer provide seasonal colour. Facilities gazebo, picnic lawns, toilets, water.<br><br> Car park is opposite the main entrance. Dogs must be restrained on leash at all times.<br><br> PIRIANDA GARDENS Pirianda 3 an Aboriginal term for plenty 3 is one of the most spectacular gardens in the Dandenongs. Enjoy a leisurely picnic on the sloping lawns, or explore the terraced gardens dotted with varieties of rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias, camellias and hundreds of flowering plants. Walking paths cross the steep slopes through the gardens and more adventurous walkers can enjoy the natural fern gully where lyrebirds may be seen in winter.<br><br> Large Blackwoods and Australian Mountain Ash are home to many other native birds. Highlights The gardens are best visited in spring and autumn when rare exotic plants can be seen in all their brilliance. Visitors can also travel by train or bus. Entrance fees apply to National Rhododendron Gardens, Alfred Nicholas Gardens and George Tindale Gardens.<br><br> Members of the Diggers Club are admitted free.
