ELA A 10 Transition Words Using transitions, or connecting words, helps readers/listeners follow the flow of ideas and understand the relationships between ideas. Transitions act like bridges or links between sentences and paragraphs. Writers and speakers can employ transitions " to show the addition of ideas " to show contrast " to show similarities " to show connections " to add examples and illustrations " to emphasize or repeat an idea " to show space relationships " to establish time relationships " to show cause and effect " to summarize or conclude Pronouns can also work as connectors between ideas and sentences.
