1 Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program National Board Certification The Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program (DHETP) was established by the Florida Legislature in 1998 to provide incentives for qualified Florida educators to pursue excellence by obtaining certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) via an application fee subsidy and to reward public school teachers for remaining in the classroom via annual salary and mentoring bonuses. Eligibility Requirements To be eligible to participate in the Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program, a teacher must: " Be employed as a full-time instructional personnel within the meaning of Section 1012.01 (2) (a)-(c), Florida Statutes, as reflected by contract, the school district 9s personnel salary schedule, or the school district 9s approved staffing plan; " Engage exclusively in activities that further student instruction; for example, through advising, teaching and mentoring students and offering information and resources to students; " Teach students a majority of the time and be certified annually by the district to have demonstrated satisfactory teaching performance pursuant to Section 1012.34, Florida Statutes; " Hold a valid Florida Educator 9s certificate that has not been subject to discipline as the result of a final order of the Education Practices Commission ... more. less.
after a formal, informal, or show cause hearing or settlement agreement within the previous five (5) years; " Complete the NBPTS online application and pay online the portion of the application fee that the application is responsible for; " Adhere to all school district, Department of Education and NBPTS requirements, procedures and deadlines. Important Application Information It is critical that you pay attention to detail through the entire National Board process.<br><br> Applicant must apply online via the National Board (NB) website at NBPTS.org and pay a NON-REFUNDABLE $65.00 application fee. Applicants must also pay their NON-REFUNDABLE $250.00 portion of the initial fee to National Board via the NB website. 2 Applicants must complete the Florida Promissory Note.<br><br> When signing onto the promissory note system you enter the information EXACTLY as you entered it when applying online with National Board. It is case and space sensitive. Failure to do so will result in the applicant receiving an error message that states cNo Record Found. d If this happens, you must return to cmy profile d at the National Board website, and verify your information again.<br><br> When you sign the promissory note you are agreeing among other things, to complete the program in the application year or properly withdraw by the State 9s March 31 deadline. You are also agreeing to teaching full-time in a Florida public school classroom the year AFTER the application regardless of obtaining National Board certification. It is also necessary that you answer YES to third party access, the State of Florida party.<br><br> Renewal of your National Board Certificate National Board Certification is valid for a period of 10 years.
