Press Power once to turn on or off a home entertainment device. Press and hold Master Power for 3 seconds to turn on or offall home entertainment devices (see Using The Master Power Key on page 25).<br><br> Use Input/ANT to select available inputs on the TV.For VCR or DVD use,select Input/ANT to view the TV or video. Use Volume to raise (or lower) the sound volume. Press Mute once to turn the sound offor on.<br><br> Use Info to display the current channel and program information. Press Menu/DIRECTV once to display the main menu. Use Guide to display the DIRECTV program guide.<br><br> While watching TV,use CH L (or M ) to select the next higher (or lower) channel. Press Alt Audio once to switch between English and a foreign language (e.g.,Spanish) ifalternate audio is avaialble. Press Enter onceto tune to a channel on some TVs.<br><br> Use the transport keys to control your VCR,DVR,or CD/DVD player. To record a program,press Record twice. Use SkipBack to replay a program recorded by your digital video recorder.<br><br> Use SkipFwd to advance a program a program recorded by your digital video recorder. 7 DirecTV Mnl MDTV6 3/21/03 2:04 PM Page 7 INSTALLING BATTERIES The DIRECTV®Universal Remote Control comes with preinstalled batteries.To activate them,pull the tab out ofthe battery case.To change the batteries,perform the following steps: NOTE:The DIRECTV Universal Remote Control will stop operating when the batteries are fully drained.Replacing the batteries will restore your DIRECTV Universal Remote Control to its full functionality,complete with your favorite settings. 1.On the back ofthe remote control,push the latch (as shown),lift offthe battery cover,and remove the used batteries.<br><br> 2.Obtain two (2) new AA alkaline batteries. Match their + and 3 marks to + and 3 marks in the battery case,then insert them. 3.Align the cover 9s tabs with the case 9s holes.<br><br> Press down on the cover until the latch locks. 4.Test the remote control by pressing Power and any device key (e.g. TV , VCR , AUX ,or SAT ).Ifthe batteries are inserted correctly,the selected device key will blink once.<br><br> 8 v w w x DirecTV Mnl MDTV6 3/21/03 2:04 PM Page 8 ABOUT DIRECTV CONTROL The DIRECTV®Universal Remote Control is designed to give you access to features not found on the original remote control.It is preprogrammed at the factory to operate a HNS-manufactured DIRECTV Receiver,so you can skip this section ifyou have this brand.However,to use it with other brands ofDIRECTV Receivers,you will need to pro- gram the remote control by performing the following steps: Programming DIRECTV Control 1.Locate the DIRECTV Receiver 9s brand and model number (on the back or bottom panel) and write it in the spaces below. Wait 3 seconds and count the number ofLED blinks (e.g.,3 blinks =3) and write down the number in the leftmost TV Code box on page 12. PROBLEM:Mode key blinks when you press a key,but home entertainment device does not respond. SOLUTION:Make sure you are aiming the DIRECTV® Universal Remote Control at your home entertainment device and that you are within 15feet ofthe device you are trying to control.<br><br> PROBLEM:The DIRECTV Universal Remote Control does not control home entertainment devices or commands are not performing properly. SOLUTION:Try all listed codes for the device brand being set up.Make sure all home entertainement devices can be operated with an infrared remote control. PROBLEM:TV/VCR combo does not respond properly.<br><br> SOLUTION:Use the VCR codes for your brand.Some combo units may require both a TV code and a VCR code for full operation (see page 12). PROBLEM:No volume on a second TV. SOLUTION:Follow instructions in Changing Volume Lock (see page 27).<br><br> PROBLEM: Channel L , Channel M ,and Previous CH do not work for your RCA TV. SOLUTION:Due to RCA design (1983-1987),only the original remote control will operate these functions. PROBLEM:Changing channels does not work properly.<br><br> SOLUTION:Iforiginal remote control required pressing ENTER to change channels,press ENTER on the remote control after entering a channel number. PROBLEM:Tried cSearch Method dand still could not find a working code. SOLUTION:Try the cSearch Method dagain after clearing out the device key as follows:Press and hold Setup until mode key blinks twice,then release.Next enter 9 - 9 - 2 .Then press and release the device key to be cleared two times.<br><br> PROBLEM:Remote control does not turn on Sony or Sharp TV/VCR Combo. SOLUTION:For power on,these products require program- ming TV codes on the remote control.For Sony, use TV code 0000 and VCR code 0032.For Sharp, use TV code 0093 and VCR code 0048.
