Vol. 15 No. 01 cWe Should Nail Our Colors To The Mast Of Quality d January 2006 KIA KIMA DISTRICT NEWSLETTER Serving Southern Fayetteville and Cumberland County BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA DISTRICT CHAIRMAN EDDIE MAYNOR: It is with pleasure that I have agreed to serve as Kia Kima District Chairman for the coming year.
I appreciate the welcome reception at the December District Committee Meeting. It was a pleasure to meet all the Scouters present and enjoyed the food and fellowship. I am looking forward to meeting the rest of the district in the near future.
I know that I have a lot to learn in this job but I am looking forward to the challenge. I will be looking to each of you for help in meeting all the goals for the district this year. DISTRICT COMMISSIONER SADIE JACKSON: Kia Kima District has rung in the New Year with a lot of goals to reach.
The first was to get a new District Director and Council is providing that for us. The second goal was to have a weekend of planning for the next 18 months. This will happen on January 20-21-22, 2006 at Camp Reeves.
This is the District 9s yearly retreat ... more.
less.
and anyone wishing to attend may do so. If you plan on attending please let me know so this number can be passed on to Roger Rose who is doing the logistics for the event. I have several people already signed up.

At this time it looks like the cost of food will run somewhere around $15.00 for the weekend. Dave Gatewood will be doing the cooking. If you cannot attend and have ideas for the District please send them to me so they can be presented for consideration.

The commissioner staff did a great job in getting the inventory in for 2005 even though it was done a little different this year. Hopefully next year they will return to the way it was done before this year. It just makes it easier on all concerned, but you have to try something new once in awhile to see if it works.

The February Roundtable will be the Annual Soup Supper so remember to bring your appetite for great food and even better fellowship. The commissioner staff with the Roundtable Commissioner staff will be responsible for the February Roundtable. If you wish to bring a dish please contact Tony Garcia Roundtable ADC or Sadie Jackson District Commissioner.

Remember to get your nominations in for the Leader Recognition Dinner. ***************************************** Cub Roundtable Commissioner Wayne Chandler: ***************************************** The January Roundtable will offer to Cub Leaders only the training (Basic Training) requested at the November Roundtable. If possible it will be completed in one night.

If we have too we will extend it to finish in February. The March Roundtable will offer the Leader Specific Training for Cub Leaders. The February Cub split session will be the usual split as well as the training if needed.

Regular handouts will be available at the Roundtables for the coming month. DISTRICT CHAPLAIN PASTOR JOHN LANCASTER: I found this interesting story recently on a Scouting Website. This simple analogy of faith as a compass had a very real impact on me.

I am reminded of our dear friend Nancy, who recently went home to be with the Lord. She kept her compass of faith before her and stayed true to her course of selfless devotion to friends 1 and family, especially to her beloved son, D.J, right to the last. I would encourage everyone to follow Nancy 9s example and practice his or her faith in a like manner.

God Bless You. Pastor John, District Chaplain Our Spiritual Compass For Scouts on a hike or canoe trip, a compass is an important tool. Because it gives you a stable reference point (magnetic north), you can set a course and follow it.

As long as your compass is accurate and you don 9t damage it, it will serve you faithfully. If you trust it. Our faith or spirituality is something like that.

We have a point of reference that does not change, God. And we have a compass, so to speak, in our relationship with God. It 9s something we have learned and continue to learn about, just as we learn to use a compass properly.

We use our spirituality and faith to get us through this grand journey we call life. If we are prepared to trust the things we have learned about God and creative living, our spirituality can guide us through the joys and temptations of life. We can use it to guide us in our friendships, in our works, in what we say to people and about people, and in how we treat our natural world.

(Scouter Rob Brown, N. Saskatchewan region) As I conclude, please allow me to add that I am eager to hear from anyone who whishes to contact me about any needs or requests. E-mail is PastorJohnCMBC@aol.com.

VICE CHAIRMAN MEMBERSHIP MATT BOWMAN: *********************** District Recognition Dinner: *********************** The 2005 Annual District Leader Recognition Dinner is March 3 rd , 2006.
