training centre located at Richmond and overseen by Paul McPherson, an experienced light vehicle automotive technician and qualified heavy vehicle diesel mechanic assuming the role of Training Manager.<br><br> While the practical, specialised Hino training will be conducted in our Hino dealership, some of the compulsory core learning modules and electives will be provided by the Tafe SA over the first two years. Traditionally such an apprenticeship can extend over a period of up to 4 years, depending on the achievement of the required competencies, however we envisage that with the close guidance of the Training Manger and subsequent fast tracking of apprenticeship, the necessary skill and competency requirements can be met to achieve full qualifications in three years or less. The apprenticeship will be carried out on a full-time basis and the participants will be compensated to undertake the training.<br><br> The wages for apprentices under the age of 21 at commencement of their apprenticeship are as follows: 1 st year wage $254.35 per week 2 nd year wage $333.05 per week 3 rd year wage $454.15 per week 4 th year wage $532.90 per week The wages for adult apprentices 21 years of age or more at commencement of their apprenticeship are as follows: Correct as of 30.05.06 1 st year wage $487.36 per week 2 nd year wage $511.76 per week 3 rd year wage $528.46 per week 4 th year wage $550.96 per week Correct as of 12/07/2007 Job Description Automotive technicians will primarily service and repair the mechanical parts of motor vehicles such as the engine, transmission (clutch, gear box and differential) and the suspension systems (springs, steering, brakes, wheels and tyres). They will perform tasks including discussing problems with vehicle drivers to discover faults and carry out their own diagnosis procedures. They will also repair and service cooling systems, fuel systems, air conditioning and emission control systems, clutch assemblies, manual and automatic transmissions, braking systems, final drive assemblies and steering and suspension systems.<br><br> The repair of diesel fuel injection ignition, electronic diesel engine management and electrical systems are also encompassed in the Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanics duties. With the rapid changes in automotive technology, Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanics are becoming more specialised in their areas of work. Future Technology The Automotive Industry is about to go through its biggest change since the introduction of engine management computers some 20 years ago!<br><br> The next generation of Diesel Mechanics will need to be able to maintain diagnose and repair of future Hino vehicles which will include modern technologies such as Hybrids, Fuel cells, and electric vehicle power-train systems. Such vehicles will have standard driver features such as Active Bluetooth connections, Reversing Video Camera Displays, Satellite Navigation Systems and Wireless Vehicle Internet Connections.
