www.rockymounts.com Mounting Instructions for the Noose SL/SLX The Noose has been designed for installation and use on factory installed crossbars. The Noose is stronger than your factory crossbar. Extreme driving, off-road driving, severe wind conditions, particularly heavy bicycles, and/or poorly manufactured crossbars may lead to failure of your factory crossbars.

RockyMounts does guarantee and stand behind our bicycle mounts, but cannot warranty problems resulting from factory bar failures and subsequent vehicle and bicycle damage. Fit Note: The brackets have been designed to fit 98% of factory crossbars. The Nissan Xterra, Frontier, some Pathfinders, Volkswagen Toureg, BMW and other oversize crossbars will require an oversize bolt kit (part # 1590, $4.95).

This can be obtained from your dealer or calling us at 800/873-1871. If the enclosed bolts are too short, this will be required! On the Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix, the enclosed bolts are too long.

You will need the Short Bolt Kit (part #0695, $4.95). - Be sure to use the Quick Release Lever (Skewer) properly- See Below -Do Not exceed the load capacity of your vehicle 9s roof rack -Remove Baby Seats, Disc Wheels, Panniers, U-Locks or items which could detach. -DO NOT use bike covers, (bike bras) or disc wheels ... more. less.

these items create excessive wind force -DO NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE OFF ROAD, If you must, drive cautiously.

-Minimum crossbar spread is 16 inches and 2 bike maximum for factory bars . -To lock your bicycle, RockyMounts 9 lock cores can purchased separately. -Note on security, even the best locks are only deterrents to well equipped thieves.

RockyMounts cannot be held liable for stolen bicycles. Installation: Please reference the Photos 1) Slide the 2 Carriage Bolts (the thicker ones with the smooth heads) into the slot on the bottom of the Wheel Tray (Figure #1). On some color trays, paint can build up on this edge, if the bolts do not slide in easily, tap them in with a rubber mallet.

2) Place the entire assembly onto the factory crossbar of your car. Line up the large Mounting Plate over the front crossbar. Align the 2 Carriage Bolts you have slid into the Wheel Tray (Figure #2) on either side of the rear crossbar.

Carefully open up and check the trunk does not hit the end of the Wheel Tray. If it does, reverse the Noose and face it backwards. 3) Enclosed are 3 Black Steel Brackets.

Two are threaded and the other has larger, non threaded holes. Hold one Threaded Bracket (with the rubber side facing the bar) under the factory crossbar. Place a lock washer then a plastic washer on the allen bolts.

Run the bolts through the corresponding holes in the Mounting Plate and into the holes in the Threaded Bracket (Figure #3). Repeat on the other side. Gradually tighten each bolt with the enclosed wrench, keeping the bracket level and even on the factory bar.

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Make sure they are snug and the Mounting Plate does not slide on the crossbar. If the bolts are too long, they can scratch the roof, please contact RockyMounts if this happens and do not install.

4) Line up the 2 Carriage bolts and pass them through the holes in the remaining bracket (the one with larger holes). Underneath the bracket, thread the 2 plastic WingNuts onto the bolts and gradually tighten (Figure #4) 5) Slide the Wheel Strap into the Wheel Tray (Figure #5) Install the quick release skewer into the fork mount by unscrewing it into 2 halves and threading it back together inside the body. It should thread together easily, make sure it is engaged by pulling each end.

6) If your vehicle has a sunroof or hatchback, CAREFULLY open them to make sure the bike rack does not interfere with their operation. If it does, try positioning the crossbars differently, or do not use sunroof or hatchback while the Noose is installed! To Load a Bicycle: 1) Open the handle of the quick release so the black handle is straight (see below).

Load the fork onto the quick release so both fork ends are resting straight on the quick release. Close the handle by flipping it 90 degrees to the closed position. If it is too loose, open the handle and turn it like a screwdriver (clockwise to tighten, counter clockwise to loosen), and close the handle again.

You may either turn the handle with or without holding the fixed end of quick release. Readjust until a firm and positive snap is felt when closed. The Quick Release Skewer is not an on/off switch.

You must close the handle with enough tension to hold the bike ! Rock the bike side to side to ensure proper mounting. The fork should be properly seated and not move!

If at all unsure, please consult your dealer or RockyMounts. Failure to comply could result in the bike detaching with subsequent damage to the bicycle, vehicle, or other motorist. If your fork has carbon fiber dropouts or does not have csafety d tabs , you must be careful and close the skewer VERY TIGHTLY .

It is imperative you perform the above safety test EVERYTIME you load the bike. Do not use if unsure. 2) Fasten the Wheel Strap by looping the end through the wheel and into the buckle.

Close the buckle against the wheel tray. For a road or skinny tire, offset the wheel strap so it contacts the rim (i.e. pulls down on the rim).

Before each use, please check all screws, wing nuts, and quick releases to be sure the rack is firmly attached. Periodically, remove the Noose from the vehicle for cleaning and inspection.
