It came into the UK, as a rolling chassis, with nose cowl, bonnet and bulkhead, and was bodied by Freestone and Webb, as a four-door saloon, with a boot. The AFN Archive Sales ledger only has notes post-war, starting, in June f 47, with the name of C.T.R.Kelly, Brookmans Park, Herts., when it had reconditioned shock absorbers for its torsion bar rear suspension.

There was also a note saying c sold and used by Billy Cotton during the war d . He was the well-known show band- leader, who bought new the 328 JHX339 and raced such cars as ERA and MG. The 326 is presently running on an age-related reg.

no. RSV888, but we are hoping to re-unite it with its original LMF434, after satisfying DVLA by ticking all their boxes. Roy has told the story, with photos, of his ownership, for the next Club magazine.

The FN-BMW 319 based special registered In March 1940 as LMF37 (54158), now owned by Nick Upton, was driven, by Rob Hubbard, in the VSCC Cotswold Trial in December. (see article in the next BMW HMC magazine for a full story - Ed.) Another car which has recently changed hands is the Willis Special. This car, built for competition car just after the war, and based on the FN-BMW 315/40 Sports ANP904 (51203) but using a 328 engine and pre-selector gear-box, has been bought from John Baker by Phillip Evans, who intends to use it for both road and track events.

It had a lot of success with its builder, Ron Willis, let us hope it has more. We wish the best of luck to this rapid piece of Frazer Nash-BMW history, Phillip ! I am sure Charles Bulmer will be keeping a close eye on proceedings, as he was involved both with the development of the Willis and its subsequent splendid rebuild by Proby Cautley.

John Baker rescued this car in bits, about 40 years ago, and bought it back again to satisfy a burning lust to drive it, but now he feels it is too fast for him - what the passing of time can do & ( you wait - Ed.) Really useful tips ( by David Ridley) eVintage Headlamp Restoration f have used my spare Bosch headlamp lenses to reproduce these in polycarbonate for BMWs and other makes that fitted these lamps. Those that I saw before Beaulieu, for Alvis, Lagonda etc., were of very high quality and indistinguishable from the glass originals. Contact Lee Appleyard on 01142 853555 or e-mail Lee@vintage-headlamp-restoration .com A discovery at Beaulieu was that the windscreen wiper blades of the type fitted to my 319 - with a rectangular fitting to the arm, secured by a screw - are available from stockists as they were used on all 2CVs and Renault 4s.

Much cheaper than the German imports! (Thank you, David, for these gems - always happy to print such useful tips - Ed.) Four-star cultural additive Richard Wilkinson says the film cEasy Virtue d starri ng Jessica Biel, Benn Barnes, Colin Firth and his 328 Frazer Nash BMW GHX514 is now on general release and is well worth going to see. Richard says cit is a most enjoyable film and very refreshing in this day and age, avoiding bad language and violent beha viour. d
