2010 Census You may have already received your 2010 Census form in the mail. New Horizon is a partner with 2010 Census. We, therefore, encourage everyone to participate and be counted.

Teachers may be sending home information with your children. Next Wed., March 31 is a Minimum Day Pick-up is at 12 pm. If you are interested in signing up for extended care, please contact the main office by this Friday.

Parent Conferences 3 Wed., Mar. 31 For students who may be struggling this semester, teachers will be arranging parent conferences from 12 to 4 pm. Also, any new families in the preschool program will be contacted for a conference that day.

the bee is voluntary. Students may sign up with their classroom or English teacher this week. Awards will be given on Friday, April 2 at Jum 9a for the top three winners in each class. The top two winners will go on to represent the school at the Interscholastic Spelling Bee in April. All Students should wear their full uniform . Remember to take your time spelling! Student Appreciation Day Friday, April 2 is Student Appreciation Day. It is Free Dress Day for K-8 . It is a regular school day with a few treats planned just to show our students how much they are appreciated. It will be a homework-free spring break. Re-enrollment Process Parents should be receiving the re-enrollment mailing this week. Please review all of the information and deadlines very carefully. Spring Break - No school from April 5 to April 9 School resumes on April 12. Field Day Our annual Field Day is coming up on Friday, April 16 , and we are already planning for another successful day. Students have been assigned to their teams for the day so they can start searching for the perfect shirt for the day. The team colors are red, white, blue and yellow. Lower School Lemonade Sale is Tomorrow Thursday, March 25 is a spring fundraiser for the fourth grade. They will be selling lemonade and a selection of other lemony treats during morning recess and lunch. The cost is $4.00. All proceeds go to benefit their end-of-the-year celebration at California Adventure. Whole Foods 3 Kindergarten Field Trip Kindergartners are learning all about their community. Grocery stores play an important role in all neighborhoods. This Friday, March 26 , at 9:00 am, students will visit Whole Foods for a behind-the-scenes tour of the store and enjoy a pizza snack. Look for more details to come from Mr. Radford. Reptile Family Visit 3 PS 1&2 and Pre-K On Friday, April 2 , the reptile family will come to visit New Horizon. Be prepared to meet frogs, lizards and snakes. All preschool and pre-K students are invited to come and enjoy the show at 10:00 am. Middle School MS Quran Competition On March 12, the school held its sixth annual Qur 9an memorization competition. We thank our judges, Sumaiah Omar, Tarek Abdullah, and Mouna Nassar, for devoting 4 hours to listening to 42 students. We also thank the Aldeen Foundation for sponsoring the awards. If the students earned a certain score in three different levels, they would receive an award in one of three categories (Shams, Qamar or Najm). Congratulation to all the winners! Middle School Electronics Day For only this Friday, students may arrange with their advisors to bring in their I-pods,Gameboys, WII 9s, Nintendos, etc. for an advisory period of fun and electronic games. Youth Philanthropy Program This year, some of our students in seventh and eighth grade enjoyed a wonderful opportunity to learn about the value of philanthropy as part of a program offered through the Pasadena Independent Schools Foundation Program (PIFSP). Throughout the year, our students met with students from other independent schools in Pasadena to evaluate various charities and make a decision on how to allocate about $40,000 in funds. According to the founders of this program, cThe goal of the program is to give the students a comprehensive and thorough understanding of philanthropy and nonprofit operation, learn skills in critical thinking and decision-making, and develop and build leadership skills and learn the benefits of voluntarism. d Applications for the upcoming year for current sixth and seventh graders (as participants) and eighth graders (as mentors) are due by May 3 . Chandler School, a participating school, will also be hosting a special meeting on Mon., March 29 at 7 pm in Hill Hall for any parents who wish to learn more about the program. It 9s Time to Act! For the second semester, the school will once again be working with Upstage, a theater arts company, to work with our students for our Drama program. The seventh and eighth grade elective class meets weekly and will be working on a one-act play. Mark your calendars for the MS Drama Night scheduled for Fri., June 4 when we get to experience the culminating performances of our acting elective class. PTO Special Thanks! We would like to thank everyone who volunteered and came out to celebrate our school 9s 25 th Anniversary this past Sunday. It was a lovely and successful evening. See 9s Candy Fundraiser The PTO 9s Annual See 9s Candy fundraiser will begin on Tue., March 30. Boxes of candy will be distributed to the students at the end of the school day. Two parent service hours will be earned for every box sold. Please remember, this fundraiser is mandatory, and all funds raised go back to supporting our children and their school.
