on Friday, March 16 , in the College Center Art Gallery. The two-hour open house will highlight Philadelphia and New Jersey-based artists Ellen Abraham, Jim Brossy, Aurora Deshauteurs, Richard Elzo Dunn, Jessica Makin, Louise DeSalvor Masi, and Carol Taylor-Kearney. Dozens of sculptures and paintings created on canvases and items such as doors and windows will be on display combining a variety of mixed media with the artist 9s view of the world.

Artist Ellen Abraham uses the energy of life and her interest in art, history, sociology, and politics to build folded, mutilated, and riotously colored pictures that characterize behavior or the state of affairs in complex situations. Using building materials and traditional art supplies, Jim Brossy constructs patterns that link to become recognizable experiences. The large size of his paintings, weight of the materials, and ... more. less.

density of color produce a physical appearance that is both inert and vigorous.

Aurora Deshauteurs unites directional road signs and their geometric shapes with a variety of traditional drawing materials to create landscapes that grows into familiar situations. Gloucester County College - 1400 Tanyard Rd., Sewell, NJ. 08080 Phone: 856-468-5000 Web: http://www.gccnj.edu Richard Elzo Dunn uses the cgaze d to craft philosophical questions about the human experience combining parts and pieces into his paintings and two-dimensional work.

Designed to be viewed frontally, his artwork often includes a set of connections that control the viewer 9s gaze through the painting 9s movement. Canvas, paper, and burlap are layered with gesso, charcoal, and black paint to build allusions to Jessica Makin 9s rural, native environment. Although the choice of material is coarse and severe, her paintings of solitude are introspective, reflecting a dreamy, airy quality.

Louise DeSalvor Masi manufactures patterns blending semi- monochrome and collage along with personal marks in a grid to produce a systematic, spatial presentation. The patterns created by items such as lace, beads, and shells with smudges and blots of color appear whimsical, with the curve of the feminine and the angularity of the masculine. Beginning with reverse painting on glass, artist and exhibit curator Carol Taylor-Kearney constructs a cvisible d interpretation of the history of the picture plane and an open-ended story.

Her artwork starts behind the window view of the picture plane moving outward to the shallow, sometimes decorated and carved space of the casement. Surface embellishments and add-ons exist in the viewer 9s space, while shared subjects, themes, and design elements connect the different panes and planes to each other to form a narrative. The jazz quartet, Adelante, featuring Jody Janetta on bass, Anthony Vega on drums, Paul cWoz d Woznicki on keyboards, and Danny Osterweil on saxophone will perform during the reception.

The art show open house is free and there is parking a short walk from the gallery. The Art Gallery 9s hours are 8 a.m. until 10 p.m., Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.

until 3 p.m. on Saturday.
