   All   persons   may   exhibit   in   one   or more   of   the   contests   included   in   this   portion   of   the   Exhibitor   Handbook.    Some   are   restricted   to   certain   age   groups,   and   the   awards   vary.    Each   event   has   very   specific   requirements,   check   in   dates,   and   other   criteria,   as   outlined   in   the   description   for   each.

  are   live   competitions   held   in   the   Arts   &   Crafts   Building   throughout   the   Fair.   These   contests   are   fun   for   the   whole   family;   entries   are   prepared, Contest.................................................. 18   SPECIAL CONTESTS 3 GENERAL RULES   These   competitions   are   public   events   held   during   open   hours   of   the   State   Fair.<br><br>    Entries   are   required,   by   the   methods   outlined   in   the   Exhibitor   Handbook   3General   Information   Part.     Include   the   division,   class   and   description   (recipe   title   or   object   details)   on   either   the   traditional   paper   Entry   Form   or   register   online.    All   Special   Contests   are   FREE   to   the   exhibitor   when   submitted   by   12:00   p.m.<br><br>   on   October   5th.   After   the   entry   deadline,   those   interested   may   still   enter   On   Site   just   prior   to   judging,   during   the   exhibitor   Check   In   (until   30   minutes   prior   to   the   start   of   contest,   unless   otherwise   stated)   at   $5   per   item.    On   Site   registration   is   accepted   on   a   first   come   basis,   due   to   space   limitations.<br><br>    Pre 0 registration   is   encouraged   to   ensure   participation.   Recipe   Form   is   required   in   all   food   related PAPER   ENTRY   METHOD   3   SUBMIT   RECIPE   FORMS   WITH   ENTRY   FORM.     ON   SITE   ENTRY   METHOD   3   SUBMIT   RECIPE   FORM   WITH   ON   SITE   ENTRY   FORM   ALL   FORMS   ARE   ONLINE   AT   www.arkansasstatefair.com   See   General   Information   Part   of   the   Handbook   for   complete   Exhibition   Rules,   Definitions,   and   Schedule   of   Events.<br><br>    STANDARD   CREATIVE   ARTS   EXHIBITION   RULES   APPLY   TO   THESE   CONTESTS,   unless   stated   otherwise   on   individual   contest   description   pages.   Many   sponsors   have   very   specific   requirements;   avoid   complications,   correction   or   disqualification   by   reading   and   following   directions.   If   you   have   questions,   please   contact   the   State   Fair   office   for   assistance   at   501 0 372 0 8341   or   email   competitiveevents@asfg.net .<br><br>    "      All   of   the   exhibits   are   to   be   prepared   at   home   and   brought   to   the   fairgrounds   at   specified   times ,   except   for   the   floral   and   ice   cream   contests.   Use   Gate   7   or   11   off   of   Schiller   St.,   along   the   east   fence.   Photos   and   non 0 perishables   can   be   checked   in   with   the   standard   category   items   prior   to   the   opening   of   the   State   Fair.<br><br>   Food   exhibitors   may   create   a   display   (dish,   place   mat,   silverware,   etc.),   no   larger   than   12 d   x   24 d,   at   the   discretion   of   ALSA   staff.   Exhibitors   must   bring   their   own   serving   utensils   and   presentation   accessories.    Whenever   possible,   use   disposable   containers.<br><br>   Stoves   and   cook   tops   are   available   to   warm   up   for   final   presentation.   Your   dish   must   be   prepared   at   home.   The   stoves   are   only   to   be   used   for   warming   up   your   dish.<br><br>   "      Entry   Tag   should   be   attached   and   visible,   without   exhibitor   identification   on   the   item   itself .   "      Recipe   copies   are   required   on   the   judging   table   for   all   food   entries.   ALL   RECIPES   MUST   BE   TYPED   on   official   ASF   Recipe   Form ,   available   at   the   building,   or   use   the   interactive   Recipe   Form   online.<br><br>   Upon   submission,   all   recipes   become   the   property   of   the   sponsor   and   the   Arkansas   State   Fair.   As   in   other   foods   divisions,   this   recipe   copy   must   not   include   name   or   otherwise   reveal   exhibitor   identity.   If   required   by   sponsor,   attach   UPC   codes   and   product   labels   to   the   copy   you   bring   for   judging.<br><br>   "      Judging   is   open   to   the   public.   Exhibitors   should   stay   for   judging   as   ribbons   and   other   awards   are   presented,   along   with   photo   opportunities   at   the   request   of   our   sponsors.   Limited   seating   and   standing   room   is   available.<br><br>   The   judging   area   is   restricted   to   authorized   persons   only.   Exhibitors   and   their   families   must   avoid   contact   with   judges   until   after   the   contest.   Sampling   of   food   entries   by   State   fair   patrons   is   not   permitted.<br><br>   "      Perishable   foods   and   presentation   materials   will   be   released   to   exhibitors   immediately   following   judging.   Food,   tableware   or   other   accessories   remaining   after   the   contest   will   be   disposed   of   without   further   notice.   Arkansas   State   Fair   is   not   responsible   for   exhibitors 9   property   left   behind   without   prior   arrangement.<br><br>   "      Some   sponsors   dictate   that   winning   exhibitors   are   not   eligible   to   compete   in   the   same   contest   the   following   year.   Others   specify   that   previous   winners   may   not   submit   the   same   recipes,   or   that   professionals   are   not   eligible.   Please   review   the   details   outlined   on   each   individual   contest   page.<br><br>   Page   2   ARKANSAS TIMES cTHIS IS ARKANSAS d PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST Winners will be determined based on pictorial composition, originality, interest of subject matter, visual appeal and consistency within the theme c THIS IS ARKANSAS d. An engraved plate will include the name of the photographer, title of the photograph and contest sponsor recognition.<br><br> Framing is provided by the Arkansas State Fair. Either color or black and white is acceptable.<br><br> " Photographers of all ages may participate. " Entries must be contestant 9s original work and not previously shown at the Arkansas State Fair. " Only one (1) photograph per contestant is allowed.<br><br> " Exhibitors may also participate in other photo competition at the State Fair with different photos. Any one (1) photo can be entered in only one (1) Division and Class, and may not be used in any other. " Photographs must be 8 d x 10 d, and mounted on an 11×14 mat of any color, with a stiff backing.<br><br> " Do not bring framed work or anything with glass. They will not be accepted. Learn the basic elements of floral design techniques and experience the rewards of creative expression under the guidance of experts in the field.<br><br> Previous experience is not required and no preparation is necessary; supplies are provided by the sponsor and the arrangements are created on site. This exciting event is certain to entertain and encourage a love of floral design and fresh flowers. Division 904: Class 1 Contest Date: Saturday, October 10, 2009 Exhibits Accepted: 12:30 TO 1:00 pm Judging Time: 1:00 pm ON SITE REGISTRATION and ENTRY DETAILS 4 PAGE 2 Awards sponsored by Pulaski County Farm Bureau: 1 st Place - $150 and an Apron 2 nd Place - $75 and an Apron Rosettes provided by Arkansas State Fair 3 rd Place - $25 and an Apron CONTEST RULES: " Children ages 8 to 12 years old on contest day are eligible.<br><br> " Creativity is encouraged 3 use your imagination!! Design and name the cookies inspired by your favorite book. " Submit entry by method(s) described on page 2 and specify Division 904 3 Class 1 .<br><br> " A recipe is required and must be typed on official ASF Recipe Form (see page 2 of this section, and also Part 1 of the Exhibitor Handbook) and submitted with ASF Entry Form . Make a copy of it without your name and address to use later. " On the Recipe Form, include the title of the book that the cookie is created for and state the reason that it was chosen.<br><br> " Any size or flavor of baked cookie may be exhibited; six medium sized cookies constitute an exhibit. Only one (1) recipe per exhibitor is allowed. " Bake cookies, decorate and prepare your display.<br><br> Bring all items to the Arkansas Farm Bureau Arts & Crafts Building at the Check In time noted above. Exhibitors must bring their own serving utensils and presentation accessories. Presentation tables are multi-colored, for ease in accessory color choices.<br><br> Remember to bring a copy of your recipe to set beside the dish on the judging table. The recipe copy should not include your name and address, or other markings that may reveal the identity of the exhibitor. " Cookies will be judged based on the following criteria: 50% for creativity of display and 50% on taste.<br><br> The decision of the judges is final. Winners will be determined on the basis of technical skill, originality, and pictorial interest. AOPC members are not eligible. " Entries must be the original work of the contestant and not previously shown at the Arkansas State Fair.<br><br> " Only one (1) photograph per contestant is allowed. " Photographs must be 8 d x 10 d, in a rectangular (not oval) cutout in an 11×14 mat of any color, with a stiff backing. Frames and glass are not permitted.<br><br> No names or markings that may reveal the identity of the exhibitor are allowed on the front of photograph or mat. " Entry Tag must be securely attached to the exhibit with string and tape on the back side of mount, to hang over the front upper left corner of the mat. The contestant can either model the garments themselves or choose someone else to model their work. Modeling ability will not be consider in the judging process.<br><br> Judging is based on the following criteria: CONSTUCTION of garment 3 50% ACCESSORIES 3 10% APPEARANCE and fit to the model 3 30% OVERALL EFFECT 3 10% Johnson Brother 9s Home Center of Benton will be awarding a Sewing Machine to the cBest of Show d winner in Divisions 914 and 915. Division 916 will be awarded sewing supplies. Ribbon and Rosettes will be provided by the Arkansas State Fair.<br><br> CONTEST RULES: " Entries must be submitted on the ASF Entry Form along with the Press Sheet . Adult contestants may exhibit garments made for someone other than themselves (like children 9s clothing), but still must complete in the Adult classes. The same for the Junior and Youth Exhibitors.<br><br> " A Press Sheet is required: this commentary will be used in the modeling portion of the contest. Bring a copy of the Press Sheet with the garment to the contest . The commentary (Press Sheet) is required for all garment and must be composed by the tailor.<br><br> " Youth Exhibitors must have constructed the garment themselves with only minimal adult assistance. " These garments are not eligible for any other competition at the Arkansas State Fair. " Exhibits awarded cBest of Show d must remain on display throughout the Fair and follow standard release schedule.<br><br> All other garments may be released following the contest. If you 9ve never seen it, come check it out!<br><br> Family teams compete for awards by rolling coffee cans across the floor to make their favorite Ice Cream. Just bring the ingredients to make some good old fashioned Ice Cream at the State Fair. DIVISION 918 ~ CLASS 1 CONTEST DATE: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2009 EXHIBITOR CHECK IN: 1:30 TO 2:00 PM JUDGING TIME: 2:00 PM ON SITE REGISTRATION and ENTRY DETAILS 4 SEE PAGE 2 Awards sponsored by Arkansas Farm Bureau: 1 st Place - $75 2 nd Place - $50 Rosettes provided by Arkansas State Fair 3 rd Place - $25 Judging is based on appearance, taste and consistency.<br><br> Contestants should bring the following items: Measuring cups and spoons 1 cup Milk Two (2) Coffee Cans (empty): 1 cup Whipping Cream 1 large (2 lb. 7 oz.) with plastic lid 1/2 cup Sugar 1 small (1 lb.) with plastic lid 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Any other choice of ingredients: color, flavor, fruit, nuts, candy, etc. CONTEST RULES: " Submit entry by method(s) described on page 2 and specify Division 918 3 Class 1 Recipes are required and must be typed on official ASF Recipe Form and submitted with ASF Entry Form or by alternate entry methods described in Part 1 3 General Information of the Exhibitor Handbook.<br><br> Bring a copy of the recipe for the judging table that does not reveal the identity of the exhibitor(s). " Contestants must bring their own empty coffee cans and ingredients. The State Fair will supply the ice, rock salt and fun!<br><br> Gloves are recommended 4 your hands will get cold! " Contestants will be instructed on how to make Coffee Can Ice Cream prior to the start of contest.
