Another finals appearance. Unfortunately a fall at the last hurdle put a dampener on what was otherwise a highly successful year.

Once again, well done! The Junior sides did not fair as well this season and that is something that we will be addressing and some ideas are outlined below. A club is only as good as the people that are involved and this year, once again, we have been very fortunate to have had a great team both on the committee and as coaches and managers and of course those wonderful supporters.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire committee, Matthew Ferguson, Stuart Wood, Robert Smith, Steve Wilson, John Patten, Paul Carey and Clint Johnson. Without the tireless efforts of these people, the club simply wouldn 9t exist. As you are aware, the club has provided playing shirts for all our competitive players and I 9m sure you will agree, they gave the players a very professional look.

They do need to be worn tucked in though, boys! As for our plans for next season: It is essential that all players in the club have access to the best possible coaching from a young age, so to this end, we will be continuing with our policy to have all coaches gain suitable qualifications. We will pay the course fees for any person undertaking a coaching course and we will strongly encourage all coaches and managers to gain these qualifications.

Further, umpiring is still an issue and again the club wants all our managers and coaches to gain umpiring qualifications. We plan to visit schools in the area to encourage children to take up the game and we will be re- introducing both the skills days and the coaches and managers night. It has been recognised that there is a need for a definite pathway between Junior and Senior cricket.

As a club, we have decided to address this in two ways. We are establishing 2 Under 19 teams. These teams will be graded and the stronger team will play in the Saturday afternoon competition on turf wickets and will play against other Under 19 teams from within the Association.

Steve Wilson, from our club has been a driving force at the Association level for this concept and at a recent meeting, the Association voted to introduce this grade. The second Under 19 team will also play in the afternoon competition at a grade suitable to their ability. This will mean that players who would normally finish playing after the Under 16 9s now have a way to continue with basically the same team as they have been used to playing with.

Each team will have a couple of 8older 9 people to provide guidance to the players. As well as these 2 teams we are aiming for a B2 side, 2 C grade teams and a D grade team. This will give the club 6 senior teams and place it among the largest in the association.

Girls Cricket has again proven to be a success and we hope to build from our current one team, to two for next season. We are fortunate to have Asha Smith and Rebecca Enright as coaches for the girls. Both of these young ladies have extensive experience and are a real asset to the club.

We are planning to continue with the Trivia Night as a fund raising exercise and we are also working towards further sponsorship for the club. So the future is looking very bright. Finally, I would like to wish all members of the club and their supporters a very happy off season and look forward to your active participation again when the next season comes around&&it 9s not that far away!

Murray Macdonald Club President 6 Treasurer 9s Report - 2004/2005 Season The 2004/05 season recorded a loss of $1235.59 for the Hornsby District Cricket Club. However, it should be noted that the financial year was amended this year to allow an accurate financial report to be presented at each A.G.M. and presentation day.

Because of this, several expenses that should have been shown in the previous financial year have been included in this year's report. Last year the club recorded a profit of $7443.22. A true financial reflection for members would be to work on a profit o $6207.63 profit over the past two seasons On this basis, it can be seen that the club is in a sound financial position, bearing in mind that expenses continue to rise substantially each season as shown later in this report.

Income Income for the year was $24377.26 (up 19%) primarily due to a small increase in fees across the board for all players. It is interesting to note the major decline in Kanga income (and players) this year and this matter is of major concern to the club as Kanga is vital to the "supply chain" for juniors coming through. Once again, the fun Trivia night was a great success thanks to Murray Macdonald and his team of dedicated workers and the $1241.30 raised from this event was critical to the club's finances.

The other major source of income was the $1500.00 - donated by the Hornsby Heights Sports Club's major sponsor, Paul Jones Real Estate. Thank you once again for your outstanding support. Members please try and support our sponsors who support us.

Expenses Expenses for the year were up a massive 97% (bearing in mind my previous comments) to $25612.85. Major expenses for the club were the introduction of HDCC Shirts, $5940.00 (but don't they look great), Trophies, 2339.15 (last season's not shown), Cricket Balls, $4998.72 (up 36%), and HKHDCA (charges for grounds, scorebooks etc) up 34% to $6918.65. Basically, by comparing the last two years expense sheets it is easy to see that nearly all items increased as our club grows in numbers.

With future growth expected again next season, management must again be prudent to maintain the club's sound financial position. Conclusion The HDCC remains in a good financial position despite showing a loss for the 2004/05 season. This is because of the untiring work of your committee and support from the members.

1 would like to sincerely thank Murray Macdonald, Matthew Ferguson, and Stuart Wood in particular, for their leadership and support in what was a difficult year for me personally. In times of limited cfree time d and so many other diversions available for kids, teenagers and adults alike, this growth rate along with a steady financial position indicates a strong position and healthy future for the Club.

The Club was well served by its small but active Committee. The Committee met formally on eleven occasions, following the Annual General Meeting held on 4 April 2004. Minutes of the meetings are available.

Additional meetings were held to resolve issues related to Senior teams, grading and player performance. According to my computer records, I administered in excess of 1,200 e-mail messages for the Club this season, plus the occasional item of ordinary mail. The vast majority of these were messages from the HK&HDCA, followed by the Cricket NSW E-Newsletter and then sundry internal correspondence.

The Club has continued to maintain cost-effective insurance arrangements. This season, the Club elected to combine with the other HK&HDCA Clubs in joining the Australian Cricket National Insurance Program, recommended by Cricket NSW and provided by JLT Sport a division of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Pty Ltd. The insurance coverage includes Personal Accident cover for Non Medicare Medical Expenses and Loss of Income, plus General Public and Products Liability 3 for legal liability to third parties for bodily injury and property damage arising out of the activities of the Club and its membership.

The premium for the season is $745.00, at least 30% below other comparable forms of sports insurance available at the time. Other key administrative activities undertaken by the Committee include: " Ongoing implementation of the Club 9s policy and procedures for Child Protection ; " Encouraging and supporting Club Officials to undertake training in Coaching and Umpiring; " Ensuring the ongoing maintenance and availability of Montview Oval and Nets as our primary training and playing facility, supported by utilisation of facilities at Hornsby North and Hornsby Heights Primary Schools; " Delivery of a successful team photo evening; " Completion of duty statements for the members of the Committee; and " Development of a range of administrative policies to help guide the current and future Officials of the Club. Overall, a very successful season for the Hornsby District Cricket Club, with the potential for a strong future with the HK&HDCA.

Stuart Wood Secretary 9 HDCC HONOUR ROLL - JUNIORS HK&HDCA Representatives Robert AndersonJason AmbroseAshraf Ahmad Daniel ButlerGary BartonGreg Brown Nicholas BatesAndrew BinghamYanis Bates Daniel CunninghamSarat CheruvuMichaela Cuthbert Daniel CrowtherCameron CuthbertDane Cuthbert Randika DiasRyan D 9SouzaMichelle Dolan Mathew DawsonMichael DevittJames Dudley Stephen EggenhuizenDominic EggenhuizenBen Ellicott Lachlan FarrarAlexander FourieRichard Carter Bevan GoddardAndrew ElstonMichael Cooke Nathaniel HillDamian HawesCurtis Dowel Tim JaegerLuke MontgomeryJagdeep Gill Sean KnightElliott KramerJamie Bayliss Todd LoganDamian RaperRichard Johnson Michelle MorrisMatt McNicolOliver Murphy Andrew NewtonTim StubbingsAlec Southam Luke MashmanDaniel MahaffeyJames Macdonald Ryan OlsenGreg ThatcherDaniel Patten Matthew PhillipsMurray PattenTim Russell Scott RodgieJames RushtonGareth Smith Justin RodgieMark RushtonPhil St Clare Hobbs Asha SmithNick SheaSolomon Tomlinson-Owens Amritpal SinghSurenderaj SivarajChris Vilimaa Andrew TerrySarah ThompsonNatalie Warner Nick UrryNathan WoodAndrew Wood Jacob van BaarleTimm VanDerGugten Brad WardNick Ward Ben WadwellRyan Wanaguru Premiership Captains 1996/97 Under 12 Girls Michelle Dolan 1997/98 Under 15 BoysBevan Goddard Under 11 BoysScott Rodgie 1998/99 Under 16 GirlsNatalie Warner 1999/00 Under 16 GirlsAsha Smith 2001/02 Under 16 Boys Randika Dias 2001/02 Under 15 Boys Luke Montgomery 2002/03 Under 16 Boys Luke Montgomery 2003/04 Under 16 Boys Andrew Wood 10 HK&HDCA Awards 1997/98 Bowling Average U11 Player 3 Scott Rodgie 22 wkts @ 3.32 1998/99 Bowling Average U13 Player 3 Daniel Butler 32 wkts @ 5.03 2000/01 Batting Aggregate 3 Luke Montgomery 475 runs 2001/02 Best Performed U15 Player - As their skills progressed so their opponents making games more competitive. The team finished in third place at the conclusion of round matches thus securing a place in the semi-finals.

Despite accurate bowling and tight fielding the girls went down to Balmain 8/41 vs 5/44. The girls enjoyed the season both on and off the field with friendships being formed that will continue in successive seasons. The teams consisted of twelve players ranging in age from 8-15 years.

Despite the age difference, all the girl 9s skills improved as they learnt to work together as a team. Some outstanding bowling performances include: bowling award winner Alison Diffey taking 8 wickets @ 11.63, Annie Malik with 8 wickets @ 13.5 and Lily Wylie with 7 wickets @ 9.57. Eloise Rushton improved her bowling after missing half the season with a broken arm, ending up with 4 wickets @ 11.75.

These are outstanding figures considering the girls bowled on average 2 overs per game as the emphasis was on all players having a fair-go. Overall fielding performances were impressive with some fantastic catches being taken. Sarah Davis took out the fielding award with 5 catches both behind the stumps and in the field.

Other notable performances include Liz Richards and Ashleigh Thew with 4 catches and Annie Malik with 3. Other players who took match-turning catches include Madeleine Shortte, Mickie Llewellyn, Alison Diffey, Anna Shegog and Mridhula Venkat. Batting proved to be the team 9s strength throughout the season.

The girl 9s technique and running between wickets improved immensely. Taking out the batting award was Ashliegh Thew scoring 117 runs at an average of 39 followed closely by Sarah Davis who made 106 runs @ 53. Another outstanding performer with the bat was Charmaine Cash who scored 65 runs @ 32.5.

The coaches award is given to Liz Richards this season with commitment both at training and games, always giving 100% in all situations. Well done Liz! A special mention to the parents who willingly assisted each week with umpiring and scoring including Mike Shegog, Janet and Graeme Davis, Julie Diffey and Deb Llewellyn.

Their help was much appreciated as it made coaching on game day an easier task. Congratulations to all girls on their performances which will continue to improve with successive seasons. Coaches Rebecca Enright, Michelle Hyde & Asha Smith Batting award Ashleigh Thew 117 runs @ 39 Bowling award Alison Diffey 8 wickets @ 11.63 Fielding award Sarah Davis 5 catches Coaches award Liz Richards 16 Under 9 Green 3 Report for 2004/2005 Season Team Members: Robert, Gabe, Edward, Lachlan, Mackenzie, Kieran, Matthew, Happy, Jack, Jason, Joel.

Well done 9 Greens, a fantastic season and one which you can all be proud of. We played 17 games, in which we won 8 and lost 9. This was an awesome result given that some of the boys had not played cricket before.

From a coaches perspective, the team was great, each boy listened at training and obviously did work at home, as you could see the work that we did out on the field in the next game. A special thank you to all the parents who supported the boys and myself across the whole season, you all obviously did work at home with them, and without your help at training and the games, as well as the usual transport issues, none of this would have been possible. There were many, many highlights of the season for me.

The most special memory I have will be Mackenzie taking his first wicket at James Park. He was so happy, I was sure his face was going to burst. There were many other memories that I will keep with me (and that ball you guys gave me at the last game will constantly remind me 3 it 9s in my trophy cabinet), and I 9ll list my favourites for each player below.

Batting Award: Robert. There can be no doubting the impact Robert has had on this team this year, and of the 4 sixes struck by the team over the season, all came from Roberts blade. Robert scored an amazing 238 runs for the team in only 14 bats 3 60 runs more than any other player in the team.

Remember that under 9 9s only face 12 balls each knock, Robert scored his 238 run off only 168 deliveries! A strike rate of 142, any cricketer could be proud of. My favourite Robert memory is his first 6 at Height PS 3 a towering blow that he picked up from a good length in line with his legs.

Bowling Award: Happy. Happy has the best action of any young bowler I 9ve ever seen, very smooth and natural. I wish I could take some credit for it, however all credit belongs to his family.

Happy absolutely terrorised some of the opposition players (I even had one boy ask if he could bowl slower), and was unlucky to not take more wickets. Happy took 11 wickets for the season, at an average of 8.5 runs per wicket. My favourite memory of Happy is his smile 3 I have not once seen Happy not living up to his name.

Fielding Award: Kieran played slips for a large part of the season, due to his amazing reflexes. He never let us down, and took some great catches. The best catch he took was the slips catch at Westbrook Ave, a great effort going away to his right.

He also threw down the stumps from the boundary for a runout in one of our early games. 17 Coaches Award: Gabe, for most improved. This was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make.

It could have gone to any number of players for any reason, but the improvement in Gabe 9s bowling over the last half of the season has been remarkable. He 9s gone from a trundler to an out-and-out fast bowler 3 his marked improvement in pace will be my favourite memory. Gabe also only got out 3 times across the whole season 3 a remarkable effort.

Jason had a super season, in fact he finished second in both the bowling (with 9 wickets) and batting (with 177 runs). He also took a great catch at backward point at Westmore Ave, which I will remember for a long time. He also finished the season with the best bowling figures for a single match 3 3/7 (remember, it 9s only off 12 balls).

Jack played very well all season, and played well enough to get an invite to play in the under 11 9s team against the hard ball. Jack is another player with a great bowling action, and like Happy, is always smiling. Don 9t ask him to keep though, he 9ll refuse!

Lachlan tried very hard all year, and his efforts in the field lead his team by example. Never scared of saying something either! A great finish to the year for Lachie, his 16 runs in the last game will be my highlight.

Edward will be a very good keeper in his future years, and was the standout in the field for the team, letting very few byes past. He 9s also handy with the bat, taking 143 runs for the season. My lasting memory will be his insistence all year that he keep in the last game!

Joel batted very well all year, and in fact led the team for least number of outs until he tried opening the shoulders in the last two games and got out 3 times, taking his total to only 5 outs. My favourite memory is the uphill pull shot for 4 at Westmore Ave (it was a good game that day!), a feat which no other player from either team was able to repeat. Matthew played very well all year, and whilst he didn 9t score a lot of runs, did take a lot of wickets with his high looping but straight deliveries, 7 wickets in total.

Even though he didn 9t score many, my highlight for Matthew features his batting at Heights PS in the third last game of the year. If we didn 9t lose any wickets, we would win the game. Matthew had to face a quick bowler, and blocked his way through his 12 balls without loss.

Thanks to all the boys from myself, you are all great blokes and made coaching such a pleasure. I hope you will all be back in the HDCC fold next season for some more fun! Who are we?

Hornsby 9 Green! Paul Carey 2004/2005 HDCC Under 9 Green Coach. 18 Under 9 Gold - Season Report for 2004/2005 This last season was well supported by a squad of eleven enthusiastic players.

All the boys participated well together as a team and generally provided encouragement to each other during the season. Most games had all eleven players in attendance. Although this was pleasing, there was a penalty.

An increase in my stress level resulted as this invariably meant that some boys would miss out on a bat and none of the boys enjoyed being told they were missing a bat. The skills displayed by the team were of a good standard. There were fairly consistent performances in both the disciplines of batting and bowling.

Boundaries featured often and there were also some sixes. There were also some good bowling performances, the best of them being a two wicket maiden by Rory Green. The fact that most of the boys had played the previous season was a big help as those boys were used to playing in a team with each other.

The new boys integrated well and their skills developed as the season progressed. Fielding skills were also generally good. Some great catches were made during the season both in the field and by the keeper.

I wish we could watch replays of some of the more memorable of them. The skill problem areas were; " Fielding placement and changes, after the end of an over or for a left hand batsmen. " Fielding alertness.

" Judgment of when to make a run, or not. " General anticipation, either in the field or batting. I attempted to address some of these during training with limited success.

These statements should not be viewed as criticism but as observations. I would like to thank the parents of the team for their help during the season. Thanks need to be extended to Martin Hollis and Glen Frost for umpiring almost every game.

Graham Roots did an excellent job scoring, supported by Warwick Alder when he had to duck off to his own game. Mark Spencer, Warwick Alder and Graham Roots also helped out at training from time to time which was a big help. I would like to nominate the following boys for annual awards; Edward Hollis -------most number of runs scored, 297.

Rory Green -----------most wickets taken, 14. Andrew Jones --------most valuable player. In closing, I would like to prompt a review of the rules for the under 9 9s.

It would be beneficial to allow the full twenty over score to be kept if both teams had agreed to play that length of game. The current rule, that only sixteen overs of a twenty over game are scored, creates an environment where the participation of batsmen nine and ten is de-valued. All too often the phrase, cthese two batsmen don 9t count d, was heard as the last two walked to the pitch.

This environment was also detrimental to the fielding side as they often became lackadaisical about this last four over session and their performance and interest waned, especially if they had calready won d. As the under 9 season is not a competition, allowing a twenty over game to be scored for twenty overs would make a substantial improvement to the spirit of the game. Stuart Norris .

U9 Gold Coach 19 Under 10 9s Report - Season 2004/05 We had another enjoyable and successful season with a team that has played together for a few years (going back to Kanga days for many) and welcoming Sean Grace and Vernon Lobo to the club, both not having played competition cricket before. We went through 18 weeks of the 19 week season undefeated but came up against a side that played better than us on the last day of the season and finished with only one defeat from 10 matches. The team scored almost 1800 runs only losing 74 wickets at an average of 24 against combined opposition runs of 1500 for the loss of 107 wickets at an average of 14.

The batsmen adapted their batting well this year for the longer, two day format (45 overs per team) showing impressive defensive qualities on top of the attacking skills they developed last year. With the ability to build an innings this year, we had 22 batting cpaper d scores (over 30 and 50 not out/retired) shared between 9 players. There were 7 scores of 50 with Tim Ahern and Mitchell Easy the leading contributors with two each.

Eli Bates, Sean Kirk and Suraj Laha scored one each. There were also 15 scores of 30 or more (not including the fifties) with Jack O 9Leary and Suraj Laha the leading contributors with 4 each. Shane Cash was next with 3 and Mitchell Easy, Sean Grace, Sean Kirk and Lachlan Parkinson all scored one each.

The bowling and fielding all year was equally impressive. Bowling second in many games we always restricted the opposition in their chase with attacking bowling and fielding. We had a good combination of speed and variation in our bowling attack with safe ground fielding, wicketkeeping and catching.

There were 57 catches and 16 runouts. Bowling cpaper d results required 3 or more wickets in an innings, difficult with maximum overs per player of 6. We did this 9 times shared between 5 players.

Tim and Mitchell were also the bowling leading contributors with 3 each. Tim 9s were all c3 fors d while Mitchell 9s were two c4 fors d and a c5 for d. Eli (a c4 for d), Shane (a c4 for d) and Suraj (a c3 for d) were the others.

There were many other individual highlights during the year from all players including:- Tim Ahern had a terrific all round season, scoring the team 9s first and also the fastest 50 (38 balls) had the best batting strike rate (102 runs per 100 balls) and was equal second highest wicket taker (12) getting wickets at vital times with greatly improved pace bowling. Good outfielder with a strong arm. Eli Bates was Mr Reliable at any place in the batting order and was able to adapt for attack or gritty defence (which was needed several times) in the lower order.

A high score of 50* and best bowling of 4/7 were in the same game against CHRSL White in Round 5. Second best bowling strike rate (wicket every 22 balls) and a good fielder (5 catches). Shane Cash was second highest run scorer (237) and hit most fours (24) and most sixes (3).

Top score was an aggressive 49* from 19 balls opening the batting in our only one-day game. Equal second most wickets (12) and an outstanding fielder (11 catches and 2 runouts) taking catches hit anywhere near him. Mitchell Easy had a terrific season, bowling with variety and batting according to the state of the game.

He took most wickets (20) had the best bowling strike rate (wicket every 17 balls) and most maidens (10/55 overs). Scored 235 runs and was not dismissed in his last 4 innings (since round 5). A good fielder in any position (7 catches and 5 runouts).

Sean Grace had an impressive first year of cricket, improving every game and posting his highest score of 31* in Round 4 and getting 2 wicket bowling hauls in Rounds 8 & 9. He took 7 catches fielding in covers and wicketkeeper. Sean Kirk showed good form again this year balancing aggressive batting with defence and scored one 30 and one 50.

98 of his 177 runs came in boundaries (highest percent) at a strike rate of 93. Five wickets in bowling and 3 catches and 3 runouts as an all round fielder. 20 Suraj Laha was only dismissed 3 times (least) this season and from only 7 innings finished with 222 runs at an average of 74.

Bowled very quickly and on the stumps with 11 wickets and most economical rate (2.7 RPO). Took 9 catches (including 5 in one innings) and effected 3 runouts. Vernon Lobo bowled an impressive first over in cricket in Round 2 and maintained his pace and aggression everytime he took to the crease.

Only batted 6 times but had a good batting strike rate of 97. Had two 2 wicket hauls in his 5 wickets and took 3 catches. Jack O 9Leary had a terrific all round season, with the most runs scored (239) including 4 thirties (highest score 49* and also had two 29 9s).

Took 7 wickets mostly with his slower/spin bowling and was an outstanding wicketkeeper (6 catches) and all round fielder (2 runouts). Ended up every game with the dirtiest trousers in the team from his diving efforts. Lachlan Parkinson scored our first 30, a vital knock in the first round in our closest win of the year.

His batting improvement was evident and could be relied on in tight defensive situations. Also improved his bowling and was always consistent and entertaining in the field. Joshua Ward only had 4 innings batting and 5 innings bowling this year but continued in the aggressive fashion of previous seasons.

Had a two wicket haul against Berowra in Round 6 and hit a big six at Cliff in Round 8. Took 5 catches including 3 in one innings and was very good fielding in any position. Thanks to Cec for the chocolate hits at drinks breaks (we needed them in some games) and the snakes for the after match stats gatherings. Season 2004-05 was a learning year for the boys.

We lost five players throughout the season due to dropping out, injury and school commitments, playing a number of our games short of a full team. The boys made vast improvements in their skills and learning to play as a team despite all team members being of varying abilities. Luke, Oliver and Matthew Gates showed immense improvement with their batting.

Lachlan, Aaron and Mathias improved their concentration whilst batting. Matthew Clarke and Phillip both improved their bowling whilst Zac took some outstanding catches. Richard showed great all round ability with bat and ball, most runs (159) and second most wickets (13).

Ricky and Isaac have done most of the wicket keeping throughout the season, both improving their ability to take on this role for future teams they may play for. Our best match during the season was when we defeated WPHC Gold outright at Arcadia. We bowled WPHC out for 51 with Mathias taking 3 wickets, Lachlan 2, Isaac 1, Luke 1, Phillip 1 and Richard 1.

We scored 4/109 declared with Richard making 41 retired and Oliver making 22. Stephen Mooney (2 games) Sean Smith The 2004 / 2005 season was a bit up and down for the Under 12 team with some good results early on and a number of close games which could have gone either way, and a couple where we struggled as well. On the whole, though, we were mostly very competitive, and (although the results aren 9t taken into account when determining club awards) we finished up the season with a couple of great wins in the Kimbo Cup competition.

The season began with 14 players on the books, three more than last year. This presented some problems with making sure that everyone got some time on the field. We finished with 12 players, with Stephen Mooney dropping out quite early in the piece.

With the boys getting older we also started to see a few of them starting to settle in to regular roles in the team. The games were always played in a good spirit, with everyone being able to contribute something during the season at various times. Of the team members who played last year, Kevin Godfrey continued once again to impress with both bat and ball, and as our captain he developed pleasing skills in organising the team on the field.

He was ably assisted by Scott Southam as vice-captain, also a useful and generally consistent player with both bat and ball. Chris Easy continued his good form from last year with some fine batting and some very useful bowling, and he impressed I the field as well. Chris Pigott kept up his reputation as a big hitter of the ball, and although he tended to bowl a lot more of his slower deliveries than he did last year he showed that he could be just as effective.

The demon bowler spot was taken over this year by Ric Sawyer , who struck fear and trepidation into the hearts of the opposition at times, as well as providing some fast runs with some big hitting when needed. Adrian Walthew , another player who can hit the ball hard when he wants to, tempered his big a hitting a little this season, and he also produced some very fine slow, accurate bowling which completely bamboozled opposition batsmen on several occasions. James Parkinson didn 9t get to bowl a great deal during the season, but that was because he has become established in the team as our main wicket keeper.

He batting this year was also very valuable to the team and indicated that he is back to his best batting form. Jonathan Muncey tended to bat down the order quite often this year, and his batting is continuing to improve when he gets a chance to put it into practice. His bowling got off to a slow start but he began to take wickets again towards the end of the season.

We had five players in the team who hadn 9t played with us last year. Cael Millner had taken a year off cricket and it was good to welcome him back. Cael is a talented sportsman and he would be an asset to any team.

It didn 9t take him long to make his presence felt in all departments of the game. A new player to the team, and also a good 23 all-round sportsman, was Mitchell Gillings . He impressed throughout the season with a strong, consistent performance in all areas.

Chris Walker , another new player, turned out to be a bit of a surprise packet. He grew in confidence and ability throughout the season, and by the end was a dangerous, hard-hitting batsman and a useful bowler. William Ward, unfortunately, didn 9t continue the season after the Christmas break due to other sporting commitments.

He found the transition from the previous competition he had played in to this one fairly difficult at first but he was making steady progress, particularly in bowling. Sean Smith joined us for his first season of cricket this year. He has had a lot to learn in a short space of time, but his progress in batting, bowling and fielding has been observable each week.

The four team awards were as follows: Batting award goes to Kevin Godfrey with a batting average of 19.1 (Followed closely by Cael Millner, Chris Pigott and then James Parkinson.) Bowling award goes to Mitchell Gillings with a bowling average of 10.0 (Followed closely by Kevin Godfrey, Chris Easy and then Cael Millner.) Fielding award goes to Cael Millner. Coach 9s award (most improved) goes to Chris Walker Thanks to all the players and their parents for a pleasant, friendly season and all their work in getting the team to training and to matches. Thanks also to those parents who assisted by helping either at training, by umpiring or in scoring, and particularly to Liam Ward who took on the task of team manager during the 2004 part of the season.

Derek Muncey Coach U12 9s 24 Under 13 9s Team Report 2004/2005 Team : Gun Banlusin, Tangmo Chimpla, David Eyles, Domenic Fraietta, Adam Gates, Ansh Gopalani, Elliott Kliffen, Elliott Kramer (captain), Alexander Ludlow, Ritam Mitra, Daniel Patten, Corey Thorley, Daniel Tyler, Hermant Vijaykumar, Nitin Paul. In our first match, against WPHC Blue at Galston, Hornsby was bowled out for 120 runs. Daniel Patten made 36 opening and Elliot Kliffen a quick 22 in the middle order.

WPHC lost only two wickets passing our total but we soon struck back, dismissing them for 140. This gave us a slim chance of winning outright, but we ran out of time with 50 runs on the board in our second innings. In round 2 at Montview, Castle Hill Green batted first and scored 223.

An opening stand of 38 between Ansh (17) and Tangmo (10), followed up by Alex (47) and Elliott Kramer (22) put us well on the way. A win was within sight after 38 overs with the score at 4/145, but we were bowled out for 170. It was a good team effort.

Next was a one-day match at Kenhurst against Upper Hills Warne, one of the top teams. Our 7/91 was pretty good under the conditions. After 9 overs, Upper Hills were 4/36 thanks to a great opening spell by Tangmo (3/10), but they lost only one more wicket before passing our total.

The match against Berowra, also a one-dayer, was at Thornleigh. We did well to hold them to 7/104, with Corey taking 2/4. Elliott Kliffen (23) and David Eyles (10) got quick runs for Hornsby but the steady loss of wickets kept us from reaching the target.

In the fifth round at Caterson 4, Hornsby batted first and struggled to be all out for 85. In reply, Castle Hill White looked nearly beaten at 6/54 before Matthew Schoer (51) steered them to a total of 120. In contrast to the first innings, Hornsby 9s second dig yielded 103 runs off only 18 overs.

Ansh led the way (43 including 4 sixes), ably supported by Ritam, Domenic and Tangmo (30 not out) before time ran out. Next we met Kissing Point at Auluba. Sent in to bat, we made a slow start, but aggressive hitting by Elliott Kliffen (35), Domenic (20), and Elliott Kramer (20) saw us reach 128.

In reply, Kissing Point 9s innings started to collapse when Elliott Kramer took 2 wickets in his third over. David took 4 wickets and Adam snared the crucial last wicket to dismiss Kissing Point for 39, our first win of the season. Round 7, the last before Christmas, was a one-day match at Montview against Castle Hill Red.

They could only field 8 players and we bowled them out for 39. Hornsby won on the first innings and declared at 2/100, but Castle Hill batted very well in their second innings to deny us an outright win. The first match in February was against WPHC Red at Montview.

Hornsby 9s total of 9/105 wasn 9t good enough to win, but we did very well to hold WPHC to 7/147. Next we met Galston Glenorie at Les Shore 1. Batting first, we were very tentative, getting only 48 runs off 34 overs.

However, this low total only inspired the team to a magnificent effort in the field. At one stage Galston were reeling at 7/30 and were finally dismissed for 65, mostly due to one batsman who made 42. Elliott Kramer (5/17) and Tangmo (2/13) led the attack with accurate pace.

Domenic had a great time behind the stumps, taking two fine catches. Our second innings was highly entertaining. Ansh (42) and Elliott Kliffen (30) starred as we raced to 7/162.

The two cKimbo Cup d matches at Montview finished the season on a high note. We beat Normanhurst Lehman (7/141 to 8/123) and Upper Hills Lee (7/143 to 7/138). Elliott Kliffen (23), David (20) and Alex (20) all retired not out.

The bowling honours were shared by Ritam (2/6), Nitin (2/9) and Corey (2/15 and 2/8). The highlights of the season included Domenic 9s inspired glove work, improved bowling all round and great fielding by everyone. There were many great team and individual performances. Batting The batting honours went to Nick Ward who scored 201 runs (25.13 Av.) with a highest score of 126, a memorable innings well done Nick.

Yanis Bates was a close second with a total of 197 runs (28.14 Av) with a highest score of 72, Yanis was there when we needed him. Greg Brown ( 20.38 Av) and Daniel Mahaffey (23.43 Av) opened the batting for most of the season and were a great combination. In a one-day match the opposition were sent in and, at the end of their innings, they were 8 for 152 a good score and we were a little worried.

Greg and Daniel opened our innings and scored 71 and 77 respectively and played a big part in winning the match. Murray Patten also had a great year with the bat with a (27.0 Av) and a highest score of 55 he was solid as a rock. Rohanraj Sivaraj, Michael Gribble and Ben Ellicott also batted well each having a highest score of 30 and Ben found some steady form in the latter part of the season.

Nathan Patrick was one of the big improvers in his batting and developed a good defensive technique and a couple of times was instrumental in a fighting last wicket stand. Bowling The bowling honours this year went to Daniel Mahaffey (17 wickets 10.6 Av). Daniel had a great season with the ball, along with his express pace Daniel this year developed more control and accuracy and it is evident by the results his hard work paid off.

Yanis Bates (13 wickets 13.77 Av) also bowled with good pace and accuracy and proved to be a handful for the batsmen. Murray Patten (11 wickets 14.27 Av) dazzled the batsman with good length accurate swing bowling. Nick Ward (9 wickets 18.67 Av) sent the middle order packing with his medium pacers.

Andrew Barling (7 wickets 14.29 Av) decided to change from a medium pace to a spin attack with great results for the team. Rohanraj Sivaraj and Michael Gribble also played a big part in our bowling attack and Gregory Gomes our spin king had the batsmen mesmerised. David Walthew (5 wickets 14.2 Av) was man of the match at the Glade (turf pitch).

The opposition were heading for victory when David was handed the ball. At the end of his spell he finished with the figures of 4W for 9 runs off 3 overs, and the match was ours. Fielding Greg Brown was our captain/wicket keeper and did a fantastic job to secure the fielding award.

Behind the wicket he took 8 catches and 4 stumpings. And as a captain he was always on the ball with his fielding and bowling changes. Greg led by example on the field and would give and expect 100%.

A big thanks to all the helpers: Linda Patten, Damon Ward, Chris Gomes, John Gribble and David Mahaffey.
