The cohort includes students who enrolled in summer 1993 and continued enrollment in the Fall. Numbers are based on certified enrollment data provided by public institutions to the Coordinating Board.

In most cases where data is not shown, the institution in question was an upper-level institution in 1993 and did not admit freshmen. The rates in this table may understate actual graduation and persistence rates by small amounts. Students are tracked by Social Security Number (SSN).

Those whose SSNs have changed are not reported as a match. Six-Year Graduation Rate from this University . The percentage of undergraduates who entered this university as first-time, full-time undergraduates in Fall 1993 and who graduated from this university within six years (by August 1999).

Matching was based on student social security number or student identification number. Assessment data represent candidates 9 success during the final year of their program ( cfirst-year pass rate d reflects performance during the year the tests are initially taken) as well as the subsequent year ( ccumulative pass rate d is based on performance over the two-year period). Such an approach provides an incentive for programs to work with their students if they are not successful in passing on their first attempt.

If a program 9s pass rate reflects the performance of fewer than 30 students, current data are combined with data from the previous one or two years. The first-year columns show student performance on ExCET tests taken initially during FY 1999 or FY 2000. The cumulative column gives passing rates for tests taken in the fiscal year indicated or in the previous fiscal year (e.g., from September 1997 to August 1999).

SBEC Accreditation Status. The State Board for Educator Certification accredits institutions 9 teacher education programs based on their students 9 results on the ExCET exam. Ratings are determined by the performance of the program 9s candidates on the assessments required for certification.

These assessments evaluate the knowledge and skills (both pedagogy and content) that have been identified by Texas educators as being necessary for beginning educators to possess. Candidates generally take the certification exams near the end of their preparation program; however, the program must approve their registration for the exams. To be rated cAccredited, d a program must achieve a 70 percent first-year pass rate or an 80 percent cumulative pass rate.

Each candidate group ( call d candidates, and the ethnic and gender groups) must demonstrate performance at or above either the first-year or cumulative standard. Effective with accreditation ratings issued in September 2002, the standards will increase to 75 percent for the first-year pass rate and 85 percent for the cumulative pass rate. If the program is under review for two consecutive years, the law compels SBEC 9s executive director to appoint an administrator with full powers to supervise all aspects of that program.

Entities that do not meet standards for three consecutive years become cNot Accredited d and lose the authority to recommend individuals for certification. Financial Aid Measures, Entering Undergraduates for Summer and Fall 1999 Notes : This table was produced by matching the Social Security Numbers (SSN) of students reported as first-time entering undergraduates on the student headcount report for summer and fall 1999 with SSNs in the financial aid database for Academic Year 1999- 2000.

Students whose SSNs were reported as invalid numbers are excluded from these numbers. Of the 21,806 first-time entering undergraduates receiving financial aid included in this table, nearly 2,000 did not receive financial aid through the university they attended. These students are concurrently enrolled at another public institution and are receiving their financial aid through that institution rather than their university.

Institutions used differing procedures for reporting financial aid applicant numbers. For FY 2001 these differences will be resolved. Number of First-time Entering Undergraduates .

The number of students reported by institutions on the student headcount report as first-time entering undergraduates. Percent of Statewide First-time Entering Undergraduates . This column shows the number of an institution 9s first-time entering undergraduates as a percentage of the statewide number of first-time entering undergraduates.

Number and Percentage of First-time Entering Undergraduates who Receiving Financial Aid . The number and percentage of first-time entering undergraduates who are shown in the financial aid database as receiving financial aid. Percent of Statewide First-time Entering Undergraduates Financial Aid Recipients .

This column shows the number of an institution 9s first-time entering undergraduates receiving financial aid as a percentage of the statewide number of first-time entering undergraduates receiving financial aid. If this figure is higher than that shown in column 2, a larger percentage of an institution 9s first-time entering undergraduates received financial aid than in the state as a whole. Percent of First-time Entering Undergraduate Financial Aid Recipients by Amount of Family Contribution .

First-time entering undergraduates who received financial aid are divided into categories based on the calculated amount their families are determined to be able contribution. The family contribution is calculated using federal standards based on family income and other factors, such as the number of family members in higher education. The sum of these three columns equals 100 percent.

Percent of First-time, Full-time Economically Disadvantaged Students Retained. An economically disadvantaged student (EDS) is a student who has zero expected family contribution in the federal financial aid calculation. For purposes of this retention calculation, an EDS is further defined as a student who entered a Texas public general academic institution of higher education within 12 months of graduation from a public or private high school.

To calculate the denominator, take the number of EDSs who first entered in the fall or spring of the previous fiscal year (or the summer of the fiscal year preceding that) on a full-time basis (i.e., taking a minimum of six semester credit hours in the summer or 12 SCHs in the fall or spring). The numerator is the number of those students who are enrolled full-time in the subsequent fall semester (i.e., the fall semester of the reporting fiscal year) at the same institution with at least a 2.0 GPA based on a 4.0 scale. The GPA is calculated as of the start of the subsequent fall semester.

Public Universities per Term ranspor tation TAMU System Prairie View A&M U 15 $2,496 $715 $6,534 $1,670 $1,530 $12,945 Tarleton State U 15 $2,546 $740 $3,802 $623 $1,792 $9,503 Texas A&M International U 12 $2,047 $642 $4,977 $1,364 $1,948 $10,978 Texas A&M U 14 $3,572 $787 $5,791 $522 $1,494 $12,166 Texas A&M U-Galveston 15 $3,650 $880 $3,950 $830 $1,000 $10,310 Texas A&M U-Commerce 14 $2,560 $860 $4,550 $1,150 $1,440 $10,560 Texas A&M U-Corpus Christi 12 $2,306 $600 $5,370 $1,261 $1,156 $10,693 Texas A&M U-Kingsville 12 $2,163 $602 $3,395 $1,446 $2,066 $9,672 Texas A&M U-Texarkana 14 $2,154 $720 $4,446 $1,828 $1,460 $10,608 West Texas A&M U 16 $2,574 $700 $5,920 $1,586 $1,544 $12,324 Texas State System Angelo State U 15 $2,560 $600 $4,900 $1,620 $1,620 $11,300 Lamar U 15 $2,651 $628 $3,408 $1,826 $1,713 $10,226 Sam Houston State U 15 $2,660 $594 $3,766 $2,894 $1,428 $11,342 Southwest Texas State U 14 $3,200 $750 $5,150 $1,180 $1,650 $11,930 Sul Ross State U 15 $2,480 $665 $3,620 $665 $1,545 $8,975 Sul Ross-Rio Grande UT System U of Texas-Arlington 13 $3,000 $300 $4,600 $1,900 $1,160 $10,960 U of Texas-Austin 13 $3,800 $708 $6,982 $734 $1,916 $14,140 U of Texas-Brownsville 13 $1,676 $808 $3,993 $1,349 $1,368 $9,194 U of Texas-Dallas 15 $3,965 $1,000 $5,799 $1,848 $1,639 $14,251 U of Texas-El Paso 13 $2,578 $546 $7,290 $1,597 $1,349 $13,360 U of Texas-Pan American 14 $2,238 $576 $4,701 $2,318 $2,456 $12,289 U of Texas-Permian Basin 14 $2,199 $750 $4,518 $1,568 $1,700 $10,735 U of Texas-San Antonio 12 $2,774 $504 $5,994 $2,317 $1,895 $13,484 U of Texas-Tyler 15 $2,852 $700 $7,300 $1,642 $1,170 $13,664 UH System U of Houston 14 $2,788 $848 $6,220 $1,310 $1,680 $12,846 U of Houston-Clear Lake 12 $2,284 $750 $6,391 $2,232 $3,176 $14,833 U of Houston-Downtown 12 $2,006 $800 $5,712 $1,936 $938 $11,392 U of Houston-Victoria 12 $2,220 $700 $5,373 $2,150 $1,772 $12,215 Other Universities Midwestern State U 15 $2,722 $900 $5,098 $1,024 $1,098 $10,842 Stephen F. The Space Projection Model for Higher Education Institutions in Texas predicts the net assignable square feet (NASF) of educational and general (E&G) space an institution needs in five categories: teaching, library, research, office, and support space.

This table clumps library, research, office and support footage together in the cOther d category. The Board uses the model as part of its review process in the consideration of facilities projects that would generate new space. In 1997 the Legislature incorporated the model into the funding formulas for universities.

Auxiliary space, such as dormitories or bookstores, is not included in these figures. Teaching space projections are driven by the level and program area of an institution 9s funded semester credit hours. (For more information on the Space Projection Model , see http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/divisions/cplan/space/space.htm .) Actual Square Footage .

Actual facilities 9 square footage at institutions. CB-Approved Square Footage Not Completed . Square footage of facilities approved either by the Coordinating Board or by the Commissioner of Higher Education on the Board 9s behalf that is not yet on-line and will be added to the actual columns once completed.

Adjusted Actual Square Footage . The sum of total actual square footage and the CB- approved but not completed square footage. Adjusted Surplus/Deficit .

The difference between the adjusted actual square footage figure and the space model predicted footage. II. University Profiles Notes to University Profiles Unless otherwise noted, all figures are derived from certified Fall 1999 data submitted to the Coordinating Board by public higher education institutions.

Total Enrollment, Fall 1999 . Based on certified Fall 1999 enrollment data. Percent of Undergraduates Who are Part-time.

The percentage of undergraduate students who took less than 12 semester credit hours of classes in Fall 1999. Post- baccalaureate students are not included. Percent of Undergraduates Who are Over 24 Years of Age .

The percentage of undergraduate students who were over 24 years of age as of September 1, 1999. Post- baccalaureate students are not included. First-time Undergraduate Admissions .

The number of first-time undergraduate students who applied for admission in Fall 1999, and the percent of those who applied in each gender or ethnic grouping who were admitted. The number of first-time undergraduate students who enrolled in Fall 1999, and the percent of those who applied in each gender or ethnic grouping who actually enrolled at the institution. The number of first-time in higher education undergraduates excludes students who are taking dual or concurrent credit courses while still in high school.

The majority of these students will be freshmen, but some first-time students earn enough dual or advanced placement credits to enter as sophomores. First-time Undergraduates 9 Top 10% Status . The number of offers made to students in the top 10% of their high school classes; the number of Top 10% students who enrolled at the institution; and the percent of the statewide Top 10% that these enrolled students represent.

Retention of First-time, Full-time Freshmen Entering in Fall 1998 . The first row is the number of students who entered this institution in Fall 1998 as first-time, full-time freshmen. The second row is the number of these students who continue to be enrolled at this institution in Fall 1999.

The third row is the percentage of students retained. Students enrolled in 12 or more semester credit hours were considered full-time students. First-time students with more than 30 semester credit hours are not classified as freshmen and are not included in the cohort.

First-time students who enrolled in the summer of 1998 and continued in Fall 1998 are not included in the cohort. The freshman retention statistic reported to the Legislative Budget Board (LBB) is calculated in a different way. Its cohort includes students who enrolled in the summer term and continued in the Fall.

Six-Year Student Graduation and Persistence Rates for First-time, Full-time Undergraduates Entering College in Fall 1993 . The first row is the number of students who entered this institution as first-time, full-time freshmen in Fall 1993. The second row is the percentage of this cohort who graduated from this institution within six years (by August 1999) according to Coordinating Board records.

The third row is the percentage of the cohort who graduated from another Texas public university or health-related institution within the same six-year period. The fourth row is the percentage of the cohort who have not graduated but who continued to be enrolled at this university in Fall 1999. The fifth row is the percentage of the cohort who have not graduated but who are known to be enrolled at another public university or health-related institution in Fall 1999.

The overall graduation and persistence rate is the sum of the previous four rows. This number understates the actual six-year composite graduation and persistence rate by an indeterminate amount because it does not account for students who have graduated from or continued enrollment at independent or out-of-state institutions. Undergraduate Transfer Students from Public Community or Technical Colleges .

Students who enrolled in 30 semester credit hours or more in the past six years at a public community or
